(ATR) Leaving a lasting legacy from the the Olympic Games isanother set of changes expected for Olympic Agenda 2020.
The second working group on the list of the 14 named by IOC President Thomas Bach is named Sustainability and Legacy and is chaired by Prince Albert II of Monaco.
Recommendations:
Two recommendations were proposed; one for bidding and one for day-to-day operations of the Olympic Movement.
While legacy has become one of the most tossed-about keywords during an Olympic bid, the IOC says it wantsto take a more "proactive position" with regard to sustainabilityand "ensure that it is included in all aspects of the planning and staging of the Olympic Games."
To that end, the IOC will develop a strategy to equip Games organizers with sustainability measures that have an economic, social, andenvironmental impact on a host city.Additionally, the IOC plans to help new organizing committees establish the "best possible governance for theintegration of sustainability throughout the organization."
For the IOC, the recommendation said the organization should find ways to improve sustainability when procuring goods, reduce travel and consolidate operations into one location at the IOC Headquarters. Additionally, the IOC should share these and other best practices with member organizations.
Both recommendations suggested working with outside groups.
