The Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) lashed out against the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and its head, Delfina Gómez Alvarez, for proposing to eliminate school grades and replace them with learning phases.

In a statement, the national president of Sol Azteca, Jesús Zambrano Grijalva, recalled that the Secretary of Education proposed eliminating degrees and thereby modifying the structure of public education in the country. “Ensuring that the cognitive social and cultural processes that students receive will be for the optimal development of their abilities,” added the perredist.

Given this, Zambrano Grijalva stated that they are only “politicizing and occurrences” on the part of the SEP, so its owner should face arbitrary decisions that violate children's rights when Full-Time Schools (ETC) disappear, “instead of thinking about strategies that, according to experts in the field of education. They lack arguments”.

He also explained that the Secretary of Public Education has already postponed her appearance four times, because “it is clear that she has no arguments for defend their bad decisions at the head of the SEP, they cannot defend the indefensible, because the disappearance of the Full-Time Schools was an order without considering the impact it would have on Mexican children and adolescents, they did so thinking about personal interests, their false consultation and with a view to the elections, and that is a rogue.”

Finally, the leader of Sol Azteca demanded that Delfina Gómez attend the Chamber of Deputies, saying that “the mothers and fathers of the children who were left without the benefit of ETC want to know the federal government's proposal to return to the program to the classroom.”

According to the new Curricular Framework and Curriculum 2022 for Mexican Basic Education, the Ministry of Education will seek to eliminate grades and replace them with six degrees of learning, because according to the agency, “another aspect of the transformation of fields is to move from school grades to establishment of content by learning phase”.

Therefore, the phases of this program are considered to be as follows:

Phase 1: it is comprised of initial education, given from 0 to 3 years of age

Phase 2: the three years of preschool will be integrated

Phase 3: composed of first and second primary

Phase 4: composed of third and fourth grade

Phase 5: composed of fifth and sixth grade

Phase 6: will be composed of the three years of high school

However, the duration will not change, since it will be similar to grades, that is: phase 1 will last one year, phase 2 will be three years; 3, 4 and 5 will last two years each, while the sixth will have a period of three years.

“Each of these phases has a minimum daily day to consider; in the case of the initial phase, it is seven hours for the Child Care Centers; for preschool, three hours are set; in primary education it is four and a half hours and, finally, in secondary school, it is seven hours,” said the SEP.
