The deputies of the National Action Party (PAN) announced that they will present an Electoral Reform to combat the one proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) so that citizens can elect the counselors and magistrates of the electoral units.
According to the bulletin of the blue and white party, this package of initiatives will seek to strengthen laws and institutions on electoral matters, such as the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Electoral Tribunal of the Federation Judiciary (TEPJF).

He also noted that the amendment announced by the president proves the “intolerance” of the Fourth Transformation (Q4). Therefore, they affirmed that “there is no way” that this reform will be approved by the country's legislators.
“Mexico is now closer to a dictatorship than to a democracy, they denounce that authoritarianism is advancing by leaps and bounds,” said the PAN deputies.

On López Obrador's proposal, Jorge Romero reiterated that opposition parties will be present during the discussion and voting to prevent any reform constitutional “damages the country or proves to be a serious setback”.
“On this issue, at least the 113 deputies of the PAN made it clear: there is no way that a constitutional reform will happen that is, again, a reform of destruction,” stressed the PAN coordinator in the lower house.

He also assured that Mexico does not need any more attacks against its electoral bodies, since “it already has a lot” with those issued by AMLO, its officials and his party, Morena. It is for this context that, the document ruled, the PAN will defend the INE.
The PAN player called AMLO's reform a “gross irony” and a “democratic threat” against an autonomous body that validated the victory of Q4 in 2018, a political movement that now seeks to eliminate the INE in favor of its interests.
He alerted the country that democracy is in danger of becoming a Morena dictatorship generated by the “terrible incompetence” of this government, a situation that led to the lack of results. In addition, he stressed that he will continue to work for the benefit of the people.
“Morena officials are desperate to have the power to influence the popular mandate that will be determined in 2024, because they know that people have already noticed the disaster in the country, and they will not renew the trust they placed in them 4 years ago, as happened in Mexico City last year,” the coordinator said.
