Christian Cueva was one of the best players of the Peruvian national team in the match against Paraguay for the last date of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, where the 'bicolor' secured his pass to the repechage. The national flyer is considered by many to be an idol, even in the city where he spent his childhood and youth, Huamachuco. As a result of his great performances, the city authorities have proposed that his stadium should be named after him.

Speaking to HCO TV Huamachuco, the councilor of the Provincial Municipality of Sánchez Carrión, Alberto Mendoza Acosta, announced that the request will be presented to the plenary of the council so that the stadium is named after Christian Cueva for the merit of being Huamachuquino.

This morning I entered the document addressed to provincial mayor Robert Contreras, where I am asking that at the next council session it be considered on the agenda that our municipal stadium should be called Christian Cueva Bravo,” Mendoza Acosta said.

“Although it is true he was born in Trujillo, but his childhood, childhood and adolescence have been spent here (Huamachuco). He came from here, from the academy of the Pedagogical Institute in football, and then military in a great Trujillo team, then at the national and foreign levels. In addition to being the architect of our team in the last match against Paraguay, it was with his genius, important passes that generated the two goals that set us foot in the Qatar World Cup, he said, recalling the match played by the national midfielder against the Guaraníes.

In that sense, he considered that the change of name is due to a tribute to Christian Cueva for the benefit of sport. He even remembered the time the player was in the city dancing the contradanza that is part of the culture of Huamachuco, and that is why “they consider him a Huamachuquino son”.

“The Municipal Stadium does not have a specific name and consider it to be Christian Cueva, as a tribute, as an example to our youth and to have more Christian Cueva in what the king sport means, said Alberto Mendoza.

On the other hand, he asked his fellow aldermen for support in considering the proposal that will be seen next week in the regional council of La Libertad. “[The change of name] It is a tribute in life that seems fair to us, because of its trajectory, and in such a way our young values go along that path of Christian Cueva,” he added.

HUAMACHUCO: CHRISTIAN CUEVA'S CHILDHOOD

Remember that Christian Cueva was born in Trujillo (La Libertad) in 1991 and moved to Huamachuco during his childhood in this city in the Liberteña mountains where his parents are originally from. The '10′ of the national team grew from the age of 2 in this beautiful town located almost four hours from Trujillo, capital of La Libertad.

Huamachuco, is one of the eight districts that make up the Andean province of Sánchez Carrión. Located 184 kilometers from the city of Trujillo and with an area of 424.13 square kilometers, its name means “Falcon Cap”, given its location in the middle of the Andes mountain range of the Liberteña Sierra.

CAVE AND SUPPORT FOR EDUARDO VARGAS

Weeks ago the news of Eduardo Vargas, a young man from Huamachuco who was scammed and lost his cell phone, went viral. The news allowed social media users to make donations so that Eduardo can pay for his studies, which led to the acquisition of a new mobile device.

“I was in the square and a guy told me to sell me my cell phone. He said 'give me your cell phone and 50 more soles'. He showed me the Samsung Galaxy A51 cell phone and I was a fan of the cell phone. I gave it to him and he took it with the 50 suns,” said Vargas González.

For this reason, Christian Cueva, our team, put on the solidarity shirt and did not hesitate to look for this young man and give him a laptop to continue his studies. Through the program “En Boca de Todos”, the young man was pleasantly surprised by the good heart of the footballer and that of his wife.

“I feel very happy and happy,” said the young man who said he has always admired the midfielder.
