Mauricio Martínez formalized a complaint against Antonio Berumen: “I have already done my duty as a citizen”

After sharing his testimony of abuse on social media, Mauricio Martínez visited Mexico City to report to the Public Prosecutor's Office the sexual abuse that would have suffered from producer Antonio Berumen. Despite the strong criticism he received from Pati Chapoy, the actor stands firm for all the artists who have been victims of a similar situation.

On the morning of this Thursday, March 17, the Mexican interpreter who has participated in projects such as El vato, Xibalba and Dare to dream attended as a special guest on the program Hoy, where he spoke again about the situation of abuse he would have experienced when he was 23 years old and was part of Operación Triunfo.

To begin with, Mauricio Martínez commented that thanks to the public complaint shared by Sasha Sokol regarding the “courtship” she had with Luis de Llano when was a minor, she was 14 years old while the former Televisa producer was around 40, he dared to raise his voice because of the abuse he suffered in his youth also related to a person from the medium.

“I want to thank Sasha publicly, I don't know her personally, thank her for the courage, because it takes a lot of courage to do what she did [...] It removed many things that I had kept for a long time, that I had worked in therapy, I am a man who strongly believes in therapy, I am a cancer survivor four times, I have faced severe depressions in my life,” he said.

The singer commented that after his publication on Twitter he received a wave of messages of support from users of the platform and some colleagues from the medium, however, what struck him most was that other alleged victims of Antonio Berumen also told him about their situations of abuse.

Trying to protect the identity of the victims, the actor mentioned that some of them were abused as teenagers. It should be recalled that during an interview for Luis Cárdenas's radio program, the actor mentioned that so far there are about 14 testimonies he receives, all attributed to same producer.

During the morning broadcast, Mauricio Martínez reflected on the importance of listening to victims when they dare to tell what happened to them, because the main fear that a person who went through a situation of sexual abuse or sexual harassment is that they will not believe him or her revictimization.

“These people in power cannot continue to abuse innocent people. It wasn't just a rape of my body, but a violation of my privacy, my dreams and I'm not defending myself, I'm defending hundreds and thousands of victims of sexual abuse not only in Mexico, to give it the seriousness it requires,” he added.

The singer also confessed that since then and to date he cannot enjoy the hits of Magneto and Mercurio, either Fey's eighties and nineties songs, because every time he listens to them they go back to that time that meant a trauma in his life.

“Yesterday I was in the Public Ministry, that's what I came for, that's it. I have already done my duty as a citizen, my civic duty, it is my moral obligation not only for myself, but for all the victims, not only of this Mr. Antonio Berumen, but of all the victims of aggressors, of criminals, of criminals, of criminals who abuse innocent people who all they want is an opportunity in such a difficult career,” he declared.

Further details regarding the complaint he filed with the appropriate authorities are not yet known, but his case is expected to be investigated after the CDMX Prosecutor's Office openly offered its assistance to Sasha Sokol.
