Carriers are of the opinion that the increase in tickets should be 20% and 25%

The manager of the Interprovincial Bus Transport Association is in favour of this measure, as this is happening in parallel to the increase in fuels.

The manager of the Interprovincial Transport Association of Omnibus, Martín Ojeda, proposed that the increase in public transport tickets, by the increase in fuel prices, be between 20 and 25 per cent. This increase is also due to the cost of tolls, which has risen by 8%, according to Ojeda.

The rise in fuel prices is an issue that has been alarming several Peruvians, this due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began several weeks ago and they have faced the increase in gasoline that currently passes 97 soles.

Carriers have not been oblivious to this situation, who have proposed an increase in the price of tickets to cushion the impact of the price hike on the sector.

“In the last three months the price of fuel has risen by an average of 10%, this affects the cost structure of any transport company, not only passengers but also freight,” the union leader told RPP.

Along these lines, he indicated that he met last Thursday with the Minister of Transport and Communications, Nicolás Bustamante Coronado, and has asked that it be respected the stabilization fund, that is, the cost of fuel will no longer rise.

GOVERNMENT EVALUATES INCREASED TOLLS ON PROTESTS

Let us remember that the president of the republic, Pedro Castillo, used his social networks to announce to the Peruvian population that concessionaire contracts are being evaluated in charge of tolls that have allegedly incurred arbitrary increases.

This in relation to the new price of tolls on the Evitiento Highway and the Línea Amarilla Express Highway, managed by the concessionaire company Lima Express, which, since the last Sunday, February 13, went on to cost 40 cents more, from S/5.90 to S/6.30.

And about the increase of 1 sol in the toll tariff of the North Pan American and the Panamerican South. After the company Rutas de Lima, which manages both routes, announced that as of February 21, drivers will be charged S/ 6.50.

“The increase in tolls has sparked a series of criticisms and complaints among the population. For this reason, we are evaluating the contracts of each concessionaire that arbitrarily raises its costs,” said the president through his Twitter account.

“We will not allow irregular increases to harm the economy of Peruvians,” the president added.

It should be recalled that a few weeks ago, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through a statement, explained to the population that its sector has no competence in toll collection on the Avoidance Route and the Línea Amarilla Express Highway.

“The ordinary adjustment is applicable from 10 January of each year and is determined by changes in the exchange rate and the Consumer Price Index. This year's readjustment ranges from 12.3% to 18.5% and occurs in the seven concessions (4 self-financed and 3 co-financed)”, they explained in their statement.

INTERPROVINCIAL TRANSPORT WILL BE FINED IF THEY LET PASSENGERS IN WITHOUT DOSES

The Superintendency of Land Transport and Persons, Freight and Goods (Sutran) announced that fines are being assessed to national and provincial transport companies that allow the travel of persons who do not prove that they have received the two doses of vaccines against covid-19.

This in the framework of giving all the protection to passengers who do have both vaccines and in compliance with the rules given by the Government in the fight to face the Covid-19 pandemic, said Raúl Salazar, legal advisor to the Territorial Articulation Management of the Sutran.
