IOC Executive Board Meets; FIFA World Cup Final -- Monday Memo

(ATR) The IOC Executive Board will meet this week in Lausanne, Switzerland.

IOC President Thomas Bach tells Around the Rings that during the meeting,the Executive Board will review the three cities running for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Last week, the race lost Lviv when Ukraine officials decided to drop out given the challenges the country faces.The field now includes Almaty, Beijing, and Oslo.

The board will decide today which of the three cities will go on to the final round of bidding that leads up to an IOC session vote at the end of July next year.

FIFA World Cup

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the remaining teams will compete in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semifinals.

The playoff for third place kicks off at the Estadio Nacional in Brasilia on Saturday.

Rio de Janeiro's Maracana will host the FIFA World Cup final match on Sunday.

One year to 2015 Pan Am Games

This Thursday marks one year to go until the 2015 Pan American Games.

Toronto will stage the 2015 Pan Am Games, which gathers athletes from the 41 Pan American Sports Organization member nations.

Canada also hosted the Pan Am Games in 1967 and 1999, both times in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Pistorius Trial Resumes

The trial for Paralympic gold medalist Oscar Pistorius resumed Monday in Pretoria, South Africa.

Judge Thokozile Masipa postponed the trial last Thursday following a request from the defense to prepare its next witness.

Pistorius faces a charge of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013.
