Coventry New Zimbabwe Sports Minister

(ATR) Olympian Kirsty Coventry is the new sports minister for Zimbabwe.

Coventry took the oath of office this week in Harare administered by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Coventry tells Around the Rings she is is already at work, immersed in briefings and other meetings this week.

Coventry is Zimbabwe’s top Olympian, winning seven swimming medals, including two golds. She turns 35 on Sept. 16.

In February she took over as the chair of the IOC Athletes Commission, a post she will hold until 2021.

"Twoimportant factors we need to consider if we are to improve our chances are obviously providing facilities and access to sport, and in this regard I think we need to be more strategic," Coventry is quoted by Reuters.
