(ATR) The 2014 Youth Olympic Games begin on Thursday in Nanjing, China.

The Nanjing 2014 sports program is based on that of the Olympics with 28 sports featured on the summer program. Summer sports encompassed at the 2014 YOG will includediving, archery, badminton, boxing, equestrian, football, and golf.

The YOG will gather over 3,500 athletes, ages 15 to 18, from around the world. In 2010, 205 national Olympic committees participated in the Singapore YOG and 69 participated in the 2012 YOG.

Around the Rings associate editor Nick Devlin will be in Nanjing to cover the 2014 YOG which conclude on Thursday, August 28.

OCI Annual General Meeting

The Olympic Council of Ireland is holding its annual general meeting on Monday.

Elections for the OCI presidency and executive committee members will take place during the meeting.Pat Hickey is running unopposed for re-election as president.

Hickey, who is also president of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), told Around the Rings in a statement that nominations closed on July 11.

"I am not opposed for the position of president," Hickey said to ATR. "I was nominated by the majority of the sports federations."

Para-sailing world champ

The International Association for Disabled Sailing (IFDS) is hosting its World Championships fromSaturday, August 16 to August 25 in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia.The ISDF works alongside the International Sailing Federation.

The event is serving as a qualifier for the 2016 Paralympics.

Women’s Rugby World Cup Final

The 2014 Women's Rugby World Cup Final takes place on Sunday in Marcoussis near Paris, France.

This year's event began on August 1 and gathered 12 teams.

Olympic Anniversaries

Tuesday marks the 86th anniversary of the closing ceremony of the 1928 Summer Olympics, the 30th anniversary of the closing of the 1984 Games, and the second anniversary of the closing of the London Olympics.

On August 14 in 1932, the Summer Olympic Games closed in Los Angeles. Thursday also marks the 66th anniversary of the closing ceremony of the 1948 Games.

The Berlin Olympics closed on August 16 in 1936.

The 2004 Olympics opened on August 13 in Athens.
