APC President nominees announced

The Americas Paralympic Committee (APC) announced the names of the candidates who will stand for election to APC President on 21 August at the General Assembly in Lima, Peru.

There are three candidates aiming to lead the Paralympic Movement in the Americas for the next four years (listed in alphabetical order; nationality and nominating body in brackets):

-Julie Dussliere (USA – USOC)

-Julio Cesar Avila (Colombia – NPC Colombia)

-Maria Luisa Villar Galvez (Peru – NPC Peru)

The President will be elected by the APC membership which consists of its 33 National Paralympic Committees. The APC Governing Board is made up of one President, one Vice President, three Members at Large and one Athlete Representative.

Argentina's Jose Luis Campo was elected founding APC President in 1997 and served two terms until 2005, when he was replaced by Brazil’s Andrew Parsons. Colombia’s Octavio Londono was President from 2009-2013.

Campo was elected again in 2013 and served as President until 2017, when he was re-elected for a fourth term. Following the passing of Campo, Dussliere was voted President in 2018.

The APC Athlete Representative elections will also be held between 17-25 August during the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games with five candidates running for election as announced on 31 May.

-Giselle Muñoz, Argentina, table tennis

-Ileana Rodriguez, USA, swimming

-Shauna-Kay Tawani Hines, Jamaica, taekwondo

-Simone Camargo, Brazil, goalball
