Torch Relay -- Flame Visits Golden Horn Bay

(ATR) On Friday, the Sochi Olympic torch made its way from Sakhalin Island to the city of Vladivostok at the head of the Golden Horn Bay.

On Friday, the Sochi Olympic torch made its way fromSakhalin Island to the city of Vladivostokat the head of the Golden Horn Bay.

Vladivostokis the capital of thePrimorye region.It is in close proximity to Russia's borders with China and North Korea.

Sochi 2014 reports that Saturday's leg of the relay will take place on "mainland" Vladivostok; torchbearers will carry the flame across a bridge over the EasternBosphorus Strait and the Golden Horn.

Overall, more than 200 torchbearers will participate in the two-day relay route through Vladivostok.

Next the Olympic flame will venture approximately 475 miles north to the city ofKhabarovsk, which is located on the right bank of the Amur River near Russia's border with China.Sochi 2014 predicts 123 torchbearers will carry the flame throughKhabarovsk on Sunday.

On Monday, the torch relay arrives in the city ofBirobidzhan. The city is considered the administrative center of theJewish Autonomous Region.

Sochi 2014 says 37 torchbearers will run with the flame inBirobidzhan.The city's name is derived from its location between two rivers: Bira and Bidzhan.

Altogether, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a total distance of 38,525 miles.The flame is touring 83 towns and cities before heading back into European Russia, and ultimately Sochi, for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
