Carlos Álvarez takes the latest events with humor politicians happening in the country. After listening to Dina Boluarte sing huayno during her participation in the Council of Ministers in Huancayo, decided to make a funny parody of the vice-president of the Republic, which quickly went viral on social networks.
But this is not the first time that the comedic actor is characterized as a political character, since he previously parodied the president Pedro Castillo, Premier Ánibal Torres and Hernán Condori, former Minister of Health. This is part of the program The Humor Vaccine, which airs on Willax every Saturday.
In an interview with Infobae, the Peruvian comedian talks to us about the importance of laughing in the midst of a political crisis, the difficulties he has when characterizing a character, and, above all, who will be the next victims of his imitations.
The Council of Ministers in Huancayo has given much to talk about. What were your impressions?
It was very funny to me. The president apologized, the other (Aníbal Torres) referring to Hitler and the lady (Boluarte) singing, and on top of tune. I also sing badly, but with the parody I had to make an effort to disaffirm myself more. He forgot the lyrics, he went out of tone, he read on top of it. It was really funny for me.
What do you take into account when deciding to parody a political character? Humor or indignation?
It's a little bit of everything, besides it's a team effort. Sometimes there is a lot of annoyance and resentment, I try to digest it through humor. I don't want to wash the faces of politicians, but I want to get to people's reflection. Let them know that they are doing nonsense, stupid things, when they should dedicate themselves to governing. Power has a humor that is not always valued.
Have you ever been censored for the skits you do?
Yes, I have received threats, many insults. The fiercest attack was when I first made Vladimir Cerrón. We only put the picture of the character, without parody, without any jokes. Thousands of insults came to me, they told me that I was going to die, that I am a sellout, they told me everything. That is intolerance. It's an army of trolls run by this gentleman, by this political faction.
I assume you did have the same reaction because of your last imitations of Pedro Castillo. Are you going to stop?
I feel that (politicians) like it when comedians do other things, that they parody football or show business, nonsense. They don't like to be touched. Unfortunately, Carlos Álvarez and his team are going to make political humor in the front row, whether it hurts or not, whether it stings or not. You have to have a leash when you're politician. Satire is scathing and if it gets to the core, I'm really sorry. If the politician makes fun of the people, why not us at them?
Which personalities of Peruvian politics will be your next “victims”?
First, I have a big criticism of Pedro Castillo because it threatens my work as an artist. When I have a minister ready, boom, he quits. I got another minister, boom, they censor him. I prepare myself, spend my voice, study the gestures, wake up and I was left with nothing. You can't work like this... Now Hannibal has come out with Hitler, also the Minister of Defense because he is not understood. And if Dina Boluarte comes to the presidency, it will be a mouthful for humor... This government gives a lot of inputs and is not expensive, there is no need to take away the IGV (laughs).
In addition to the politician, another type of humor that has become popular lately is black. What is your opinion about the show Hablando Hueva..., by Ricardo Mendoza and Jorge Luna?
Rather than being subject to censorship, I think they should self-regulate. I have also done black humor, as in 2000, or in the Humor Special. But things are evolving with society. There are things that can't be done and they made the terrible mistake of making fun of a disability. I have worked with Ricardo and it is good that he has been rectified, I hope that both do not continue along that path because it touches very sensitive fibers for Peruvians.
Lately, Dayanita, from JB on ATV, has been accused of being proud. Do you think it's easy to lose humility when you gain fame on television?
I can't have an opinion about others, I don't think it's ethical to talk about my colleagues. But I can say that we are all human beings, we all have ego, but we must be careful that this dose does not change to pride. You have to always have your feet on the ground, and have someone to locate you. I've never stopped signing an autograph or accepting a selfie. I've never done that in my 38-year career. People are affectionate, Peruvians are like that and I reciprocate. It's a matter of respect.
