The Rangers announced on Tuesday that Colombian Alfredo Morelos will be out for the rest of the season in the Scottish championship, following a thigh injury suffered during the concentration with his selection for the last two dates of the South American Qualifier heading to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The reigning Scottish Premiership champion, about to give up defending the title, said the 25-year-old would return to training in preseason.

The absence of the striker, who has scored 18 goals this season, is a serious blow to Rangers, who are six units behind Celtic with only six games left until the end of the season.

Rangers will also face Celtic in the Scottish Cup semifinals and will meet Portuguese Braga in the Europa League quarterfinals.

With the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the Colombian striker has taken a second wind, returned to his great scoring status and is going through a great football moment. Good news for Reinaldo Rueda and the Colombian National Team that lacks goals.

In the Europa League match against Belgrade's Red Star at Ibrox Stadium, the Rangers took the first shot in the round of 16 and this was a resounding 3-0 victory that puts it one step further into the quarterfinals. James Tavemier, Leon Balogun and Colombian Alfredo Morelos scored in the match.

A prepared corner kick, short pass that was immediately turned into a cross, the rival defender did not reject the ball well and practically ended up assisting the Colombian who with a powerful right, crossed the ball to the other club and surprised goalkeeper Borjan who could do little to prevent the ball from entering the back of the net. A new goal for the Colombian, but that meant a lot to the history of the competition.

The goal scored by the Colombian became number 32 in the Europa League and became the most scoring South American player in the history of the competition, beating his compatriot, Radamel Falcao García, who had scored 31 goals. Now Morelos is solo in the third place of top scorers in the history of the tournament.

1. Henrik Larsson - Sweden - 40 goals

2. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - Netherlands - 34 goals

3. Alfredo Morelos - Colombia - 32 goals

4. Radamel Falcao García - Colombia - 31 goals

5. Aritz Aduriz - Spain - 31 goals
