“Vomitize the idea”: Chumel Torres criticized the appearance of the president of Ukraine at the 2022 Grammys

The influencer, Chumel Torres, spoke out against the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky on the night of the Grammy 2022, last 3rd of April.

In the context of the war that the Russian army is still waging in the European nation, the president surprised the attendees of the ceremony and the audience with a live message emphasizing the tragedy of silencing injustices and thus giving rise to the presentation of the performer and composer, Jhon Legend.

However, the driver of El Pulso de la República also reproved this fact, noting that the academy would have taken advantage of this problem - which at the moment has claimed the lives of more than a thousand civilians - to make “a circus of whining celebrities”.

This, coupled with a criticism of the opinions that advocated the act, under the discourse of giving more visibility to the conflict on the fringes of the old continent:

The publication of the communicator generated mixed opinions: on the one hand, there were netizens who agreed with his thinking and rushed against the organization and, even, of the Ukrainian president.

“Zelenski is one more actor/pawn”, “It was not the place, not the time and less the context. It trivializes its own cause”, “I was given an act of propaganda... A lot of blah blah, but if they won't do anything, it's better not to do the pro-peace” “And what did they do? End of video, orchestra and presenters from another category enter? Pathetic,” said some of his followers.

However, another part of the comments that the tweet received were acid attacks against Torres, in which it was accused that the publication fell into “the unempathetic”, as well as “ignorance” of the impact that such an appearance may have on the knowledge of the conflict that triggered a little more than a month ago.

“We know about the war, yes. But few of us know what is really happening. This particular comment of yours does not help at all”, “We forget, even if you don't believe it”, “No m*mes, now you are geopolitical”, “You do your thing with clowning and laughing”, can be read among other attacks.

During his speech, Zelensky spoke about music, the conflict with Russia and stressed that people of all ages are among the fatalities of the confrontation with Russia. However, he placed special emphasis on childhood, who were part of the hardest hit sector in the war.

“Our parents are happy to wake up every morning, our loved ones don't know if they will wake up again... our musicians wear bulletproof vests instead of tuxedos... we fill the silence with music, telling the truth about war is very important on social media and on television, give us your support as can”, he said in the first part of his speech which lasted just over 5 minutes.

Finally, the Ukrainian president alluded to the freedom that all the artists and fans who gathered at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where they can live freely and without the fear of war: “Peace will come to all our cities, which are legends and are being destroyed by war, but I have a dream that they are alive and as free as you are on the Grammy stage,” he stressed.
