MIAMI BEACH, Florida, USA (AP) After more than two decades of working together, Wisin and Yandel announced on Monday that after this year they will no longer be touring together. The last, farewell, will be at the end of 2022 in about twenty cities in the United States to celebrate their career and the release of a new album.
“More than a monumental closure of what has been a race is to thank millions of people for more than 20 years saying yes,” Wisin said when he broke the news. “We are honored, there is emotion, we are happy, at the same time a little sad to close a cycle of so many years.”
The popular reggaeton duo will embark on the tour “The Last Mission” beginning September 20 Miami and ending on December 2 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in his native Puerto Rico. Among the 26 cities they will visit on their journey of more than two months, they will play concerts in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Antonio and Boston.
Yandel explained that the decision was made in part because they both need more time for their families. Wisin said that in November her baby was born and she has hardly had time to enjoy it.
The announcement came a day before the artists were honored in Beverly Hills, California, with the BMI Presidential Award in recognition of their achievements and contributions to Latin music over more than 20 years.
“The composer has that little bit of creativity, of daring to what no one else,” Wisin said after telling how they have been inspired together to compose music and songs. “When the muse arrives it is a blessing that we do not control.”
Wisin & Yandel began their career in the late 90s and released their first album, “The Kings of the New Millennium”, in 2000. This was followed by numerous albums, including “From New to Old”, “My Life... My life”, “Otherwise”, “Pa'l mundo”, “The Extraterrestrials” and “The Revolution”.
After the release of “Leaders” in 2012, they paused as a duo and dedicated themselves to personal projects. A few years later, they reunited and released their 10th studio album, “The People's Champions: The Big Leagues” of 2018, which was followed by “The Management” a year later.
