Sport Climbing World Championships Begin -- Federations Focus

(ATR) Sport Climbing is holding its climbing and para-climbing World Championships in Paris this week.

The International Federation of Sport Climbing will be streaming the event to 135 countries through the federation’s highlight show – IFSC Climbing monthly.

The IFSC will utilize other steaming services such as YouTube and Japan’s SkyA to broadcast the event's finals and semifinals live.

President of the IFSC Marco Scolaris stated, "Our launch of international LIVE broadcasting shows the rapid progress we are making, with Sport Climbing’s fast and continued organic growth as an urban sport, with the boost of Sport Climbing’s inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and with Japan’s growing strength as an international force in Sport Climbing."

The sport isone of the latest additions to the Olympic event roster along with karate, skateboarding, surfing, and baseball/softball.

The IFSC World Championships begin today and concludes on Sep.18.

World Curling hosts annual general assembly meeting

The World Curling Federation held its annual general assembly last week.

Among things decided at the AGA were venues for future championships, rule changes and board elections.

At the AGA the WCF was given the right to set rules and policies for sweeping techniques and brush technology for curling.

Brushes will now have one standard composition and will be first put to use at the Mixed Curling Championship in Russia, which begin Oct. 14.

"I’m also pleased that we have reached, what I believe are, clear and lasting solutions to the challenges we have faced with brushes and sweeping over the past 12 months" WCF President Kate Caithness said in a statement.

Guyana and Mexico will now take part as conditional members of the WCF, bringing the number of member associations to 56.

The next WCF Annual General Assembly will be held in Sep. 2017.

World Cup of Hockey begins this week

The National Hockey League and NHL Players Association are hosting the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

150 players will compete for two weeks at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Teams will include Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden, USA, Europe and North America.

Live coverage in Canada will be made available through Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

ESPN will be covering the tournament in the United States.

Tickets are currently on sale.

The World Cup of Hockey will begin on Sep. 17 and conclude on Oct. 1.

Sailing World Cup Preview to Tokyo 2020

The Sailing World Cup gives you a first hand look into what's to come for the sailing event at the Olympic Games.

In preparation for Tokyo 2020 the Sailing World Cup has altered its schedule to engage sailing sports fans and excite sponsors and broadcasters.

As part of their strategy, popular cities have been awarded a number of series rounds leading into the 2020 Games.

Miami will host the first round of the upcoming 2017 series.

"After Rio 2016, a clear vision is required for the Sailing World Cup to capitalise on the success of one of the most thrilling Olympic Sailing Competitions in recent history" World Sailing CEO Andy Hunt said in a statement.

"We now aim to develop a sustainable, long term, annual elite series that supports an Olympic campaign, drives our commercial and sponsorship activities and takes the sport to thriving venues with world famous sailing conditions," he adds.

The Sailing World Cup series will begin Jan. 2017 and will host events leading up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
