Senior Almaty 2022 bid delegation arrive in Kuala Lumpur for the 128th IOC Session

The official delegation of the Almaty 2022 bid committee arrived today in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur for the 128th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The official delegation of the Almaty 2022 bid committee arrived today in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur for the 128th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The delegation is led by Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Almaty 2022 Chairman Mr Karim Massimov. The Prime Minister is joined by senior Government representatives at every level, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr Yerlan Idrissov, Presidents of the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov and Mr Kairat Boranbayev, and the Minister of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr Arystanbek Mukhamediuly.

The Almaty 2022 bid delegation also includes several of Kazakhstan’s premier athletes and Almaty 2022 bid representatives, including Vice Chairman of Almaty 2022 Bid Mr Andrey Kryukov, Sochi 2014 Olympic medalist Mr Denis Ten, Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympian and Kazakhstan National Team Ice Dancer Ms Karina Uzurova, and IOC Athletes Entourage Committee Member and Chairwoman of the Olympic Council of Asia Women and Sports Commission Ms Natalya Sipovich.

Minister of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr Arystanbek Mukhamediuly: «It is an honor and a personal thrill for our country and our city to be here in Kuala Lumpur for the final IOC presentation. This is our second bid for the Winter Games and we are excited to showcase the amazing progress our country has achieved to the world. The Winter Games are a perfect fit with Almaty and Kazakhstan’s long-term strategy called the ‘Kazakhstan 2050 Strategy’ and we can think of no better partner than the Olympic Movement to help our young nation take the next step onto the world stage».

The 128th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be held from July 31 to August 3. The host city for the 24th Winter Olympic Games in 2022 will be unveiled on the first day.

During the final presentation, the delegation will show the IOC how their unique Games Concept based on real winter weather, real winter sports venues and real winter ambience aligns perfectly with the new Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms.

Mayor of the city of Almaty Mr Akhmetzhan Yessimov: «Almaty 2022 presents one of the most compact and efficient Games Concepts in over 30 years. All venues will be within a 30-km radius of the Athlete’s Village and 70% of our venues already exist. Almaty wants to help make the IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020 come alive by demonstrating how a developing country can host the Winter Games sustainably and affordably».

Almaty 2022 Vice Chairman Mr Andrey Kryukov: «Almaty has been preparing for this moment for 15 years and we now we are ready. Almaty is a real winter sports town with a passion for winter sports that spans many decades. We are encouraged by all of the positive feedback we received since our presentation in Lausanne, and now we hope to show the IOC members that Almaty is the best option for the 2022 Winter Games».
