(ATR) Winter Olympic organizers say 1.17 million tickets will go on sale to the public, ranging in price from $17 to $785.

PyeongChang 2018 said on Monday that 70 percent of the tickets would be sold in South Korea and 30 percent abroad. Ticket sales revenue is estimated at $1.5 billion.

Half of the tickets for competitions will be priced under $70. Tickets for figure skating and ice hockey, which have a strong following in Korea and overseas, will be among the most expensive. The less popular winter sports in Korea, including biathlon and luge, are to be priced more cheaply.

Opening and closing ceremonies tickets will range from $192 to $1307.

PyeongChang 2018 said it will sell half-price tickets for children, senior citizens over 65, war veterans and disabled people (Korean residents only) to offer "even more accessibility and affordability".

Today’s announcement came during Games organizers' monthly briefing with local journalists led by secretary general Yeo Hyungkoo. POCOG director general of marketing, Eom Chan-wang made the presentation.

"We have been working on ticket prices since October 2014. We have discussed with each federation and our government before receiving final approval from the International Olympic Committee," Yeo was quoted as saying by the Korea Herald.

Public ticket sales in Korea will go live via POCOG’s official website in October. NOCs and authorized ticket resellers will also begin sales at that time.

PyeongChang 2018 plans to announce Paralympic Games ticket prices early next year.

Games chiefs also unveiled today their latest domestic sponsorship agreement, a deal with S-OIL Corporation. POCOG president Yang-Ho Cho and S-OIL Corporation CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher took part in the signing ceremony at POCOG's office in Seoul.
