
Sochi 2014
Today marks the four-month countdown to the 2014 Winter Olympics and the arrival of the Olympic flame in Moscow. Around the Rings is in Moscow to cover the event.
Saturday evening, leaders of the Sochi 2014 Olympic winter games received the flame in a ceremony at the marble stadium built for the 1896 Olympics. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak received the flame from Hellenic Olympic committee president Spyros Capralos.The flame lit tiny flames in miners lamps which were transported Sunday to Moscow.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
On Tuesday a "regeneration committee"will meet at the London Assembly to discuss progress on the re-development of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The committee will question Executive Director for Regeneration and Community Partnerships, Paul Brickelland London Legacy Development Corporation Deputy Chairman,Neale Coleman.
PASO General Assembly
The Pan American Sports Organization will meet Tuesday through October 11 for the LI General Assembly in Toronto, Canada. Toronto will stage the 2015 Pan American Games.
Representatives from the National Olympic Committees of the Americas, International Federations, organizing committees of future Olympic Games, and other Olympic dignitaries will attend meeting.Around the Ringswill be on the scene in Toronto to cover the event.
AIBA World Boxing Championships
The 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships will be heldin Almaty, Kazakhstan October 11 to October 27.
Elite boxers from around the world meet every two years to compete in this event.Baku, Azerbaijanhosted the 2011 World Boxing Championships.The inaugural AIBA Men's World Championships took place in 1974 in Havana, Cuba.
Weightlifting World Championships
The International Weightlifting Federation will stage the 2013 Weightlifting World Championships in Wroclaw, Poland. Competition begins on October 16 and ends October 27.
FIFA U-17 World Cup
The United Arab Emirates will host the U-17 World Cup from October 17 to November 8. Mexico hosted the event in 2011.
East Asian Games
The 2013 East Asian Games began in Tianjin, China on Sunday. Athletes from nine East Asian nations will compete in 262 events across 22 disciplines. Competition ends on October 15.
World Archery
The 2013 World Archery Championships began September 29 in Belek. The city is part of Turkey's Antalya province.Competition came to a close on Sunday.
