French Investigation of IAAF and Diack Completed

(ATR) The investigation of the IAAF corruption case which involves its former president Lamine Diack and his son Papa Massata Diack is complete.

The French prosecutor handling the Diack investigation also tells Around the Rings that the next step is for him to analyze the case and request a trial to the investigating judge. Should the judge sign off on a trial, it would be held in the coming months.

The former IAAF president Diack, along with the federation's head of anti-doping Gabriel Dollé, and its advisor to the president, the lawyer Habib Cissé, have all been indicted for passive bribery.

They are suspected by the French court of having delayed open doping procedures against Russian athletes in exchange for sums of money and the obtaining of broadcasting and sponsorship contracts.

Barred from leaving France, Lamine Diack has also been indicted for breach of trust in another part of the case. He is suspected of having allowed one of his sons, Papa Massata Diack, a former IAAF marketing consultant, to appropriate federation revenue from sponsors.

PMD, as the young Diack is known,has been on Interpol’s most wanted list since December 2015 but remains in Senegal as the government there refuses to extradite him to France. He denies the accusations

Nuzman Trial On Hold

A source familiar with the judicial proceedings against former IOC member Carlos Nuzman says that the parties involved "are following with great attention" the outcome of the investigation in the French court.

Nuzman’s honorary IOC membership was suspended after he was arrested in Brazil as part of a corruption probe, coordinated with French authorities, related to vote buying for the 2016 Olympic election.

"The Nuzman trial is paralyzed by the judge, there is uncertainty, and it could continue until 2020," the source told Around the Rings.

According to analysts consulted by ATR, the interruption is likely due to the fact that Judge Marcelo Bretas is awaiting new evidence from investigations in France and the United States.

Nuzman is suspected by the Public Prosecutor's Office of being the main intermediary between businessman Arthur Soares and Lamine Diack in an alleged bribery operation between African members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in favor of Rio de Janeiro.

Nuzman has denied the accusations.
