World Triathlon is deeply saddened and shocked to hear of the death of South Korean triathlete Choi Suk-hyeon who, according to media reports, "took her own life after enduring years of abuse".
World Triathlon has immediately contacted the South Korean Triathlon Federation and the South Korean Olympic Committee to gather all the information available on this case.
The World Triathlon Safeguarding and Anti-Harassment Group has also contacted the Korean Federation to make sure that while the investigation is carried out, all Korean triathletes are protected and safe.
Last year, World Triathlon established its Safeguarding Policy and the Group Against Harassment and Abuse in Triathlon. World Triathlon has been working in the past months on education and the prevention of any form of Harassment and Abuse. In case any athlete, coach or official wants to report any such case, we remind everyone that they can contact the World Triathlon Welfare Officers at safesport@triathlon.org. All information and reports will be kept confidential.
