WADA PROVISIONALLY SUSPENDS ACCREDITATION OF PARIS LABORATORY / L'AMA SUSPEND PROVISOIREMENT L'ACCRDITATION DU LABORATOIRE DE PARIS

MEDIA RELEASE

Montreal, 26 September 2017 – The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has provisionally suspended the WADA accreditation of the Laboratory of the Agence Française de lutte contre le Dopage (the National Anti-Doping Organization of France) in Châtenay-Malabry, France (Paris Laboratory). This provisional suspension was imposed due to analytical issues identified by WADA.

The provisional suspension, which took effect on 24 September 2017, prohibits the Paris Laboratory from carrying out any anti-doping activities, including all analyses of urine and blood samples. The provisional suspension will remain in place pending disciplinary proceedings being carried out by an independent Disciplinary Committee, which will be mandated to make a recommendation to the Chair of the WADA Executive Committee regarding the status of the Laboratory’s WADA accreditation.

During the period of the provisional suspension, samples that have not yet been analyzed by the Paris Laboratory; samples currently undergoing a confirmation procedure; and, any samples for which an Adverse Analytical Finding has been reported; must be securely transported to another WADA-accredited laboratory. This is in order to ensure continued high quality sample analysis, which also helps preserve athletes’ confidence in this process and of the wider anti-doping system.

According to the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL), WADA is responsible for accrediting and re-accrediting anti-doping laboratories, thereby ensuring that they maintain the highest quality standards. This monitoring process is conducted in conjunction with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) assessment by independent national accreditation bodies that are full members of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).

Montréal, le 26 septembre 2017 – L’Agence mondiale antidopage (AMA) a suspendu provisoirement l’accréditation du laboratoire de l’Agence française de lutte contre le dopage situé à Châtenay-Malabry, en France (laboratoire de Paris). Cette suspension a été imposée à la suite de la découverte par l’AMA de problèmes liés aux analyses.

Du fait de cette suspension provisoire, qui est entrée en vigueur le 24 septembre 2017, le laboratoire de Paris ne peut mener aucune activité antidopage, y compris des analyses d’échantillons d’urine et de sang. La suspension provisoire sera maintenue en attendant l’engagement de procédures disciplinaires par un comité disciplinaire indépendant. Celui-ci sera chargé de faire des recommandations au président du Comité exécutif de l’AMA sur le statut d’accréditation du laboratoire par l’AMA.

Durant la période de suspension provisoire, les échantillons qui n’ont pas encore été analysés par le laboratoire de Paris, qui font actuellement l’objet d’une procédure de confirmation ou qui ont donné lieu à un signalement de résultats d’analyse anormaux doivent être transportés en toute sécurité vers un autre laboratoire accrédité par l’AMA. Cette mesure vise à faire en sorte qu’on puisse continuer de compter sur des analyses d’échantillons de qualité, ce qui contribue également à préserver la confiance des sportifs dans le processus et le système antidopage dans son ensemble.

Selon le Standard international pour les laboratoires (SIL), l’AMA est responsable de l’accréditation et de la réaccréditation des laboratoires antidopage et doit donc s’assurer qu’ils respectent les normes de qualité les plus élevées en vigueur. Ce processus de surveillance est exécuté parallèlement à une évaluation de l’Organisation internationale de normalisation (ISO) par des organismes d’accréditation nationaux indépendants qui sont membres en règle de la Coopération internationale d’accréditation des laboratoires (ILAC).
