With 300 days to go to the opening ceremony in Tokyo 2020 Sweden has so far obtained 36 individual quotas to compete in Japan. Six teams have already qualified, and more will follow.
"We hope to send more than 160 Swedish athletes to Tokyo. We are hoping to have two handball teams and a women’s basketball team," says Peter Reinebo, Chef de Mission and CEO of the Swedish Olympic Committee.
Sweden has so far have qualified athletes in sports like wrestling, canoe, sailing, equestrian, shooting, archery, athletics, swimming and football.
"We believe Sweden has the potential to compete for medals in up to 14 different sports," says Peter Reinebo.
Sweden has just launched a brand new national Olympic project with the goal to win 20 medals both in the Winter Games in Milano Cortina 2026 and the Summer Games in Los Angeles 2028.
Sweden won 14 medals in PyeongChang 2018 and 11 medals in Rio 2016.
