The excuses about his behavior on the roads of the city abound in the caleños. They argue that they ignore traffic lights, for example, because they fear being victims of robberies: they make improper turns because there are no crossings or are too far away, among others. Hence the accidents.

It was known, for example, that the accident in which “the colossus of bonaventure” Freddy Rincón died was caused by the driver of the van, who is missing. A red light was passed, causing the accident with the feeder of the Massive Integrated of the West, MIO.

According to the mobility bulletin of the monitoring and evaluation program, Cali Cómo Vamos, between January 1 and March 27 of this year, there were 2,915 traffic accidents in the capital of Valle del Cauca. Of these claims, 1729 were only materially affected, which means an increase of 33.2% compared to the previous year; and 1,186 of the cases were injured, figures that also increased by 22.5% compared to the previous period.

The figures were in contrast with those in the bulletin of the Observatory of Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility of the Mayor's Office of Cali. As of April 9, 3,433 accidents were reported. This means that, in the first 100 days of the year, on average, 35 road accidents are recorded daily. This represents an increase of 30.8 per cent, or in more concrete figures, 808 cases more than in the same period last year.

The administration considers that Saturdays are the days when accidents occur the most. In addition, that between 7 and 8 in the morning, it is the time slot with the highest accident rate. Over the course of the year, it became clear that January has been the month with the highest number of fatalities, 23 deaths.

They even showed that 82,970 cases have been imposed, of which in week 14 alone, from 3 to 9 April, 5580 violations were recorded. The figures show that the vehicles that are most likely to be sanctioned are motorcycles, followed by cars.

According to the statements of the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, one of the factors of the accident rate is the taches and bollards, which cause a sense of disorder in the city.

The figures estimate that in the capital of Valle del Cauca there are about 2,500 kilometers of road mesh, which is badly damaged. In this regard, the mayor announced that on Tuesday, April 19, the tender for the “largest road rehabilitation that our city has had in the last 10 years” will be closed. The intention is not only to improve infrastructure, but to better adapt the streets to reduce accidents. There will be 90 billion pesos that will develop works throughout 2022, in fact, the president estimates that by 2023 a similar sum will be invested in this concept.

Ospina said that between June and July, there will be mobility problems in Cali:
