Magaly Medina defends Alfredo Barnechea's daughter after controversial wedding: “It's very simple”

The wedding of Belén Barnechea, daughter of former presidential candidate Alfredo Barnechea, has given much to talk about in recent days. The images of the religious marriage, which took place in the city of Trujillo last Saturday, April 9, went viral on social networks and not for good reasons.

It happens that Belén married Martín Cabello de los Cobos, grandson of the Counts of Fuenteblanca in Spain. After saying yes, the happy couple paraded through the streets of Trujillo to make their union known. On the way, indigenous women threw flowers at him sitting on the ground, a fact that users did not like.

Right away, the ceremony was heavily questioned on Twitter. On this social network, netizens called the wedding “viceregal” and criticized the newly married couple, since many considered that their “idea” was quite retrograde and that it offended women by using them as an ornament for an event.

Those involved have not come out to defend themselves against criticism. However, who did come out to defend the marriage was Magaly Medina, whose press team traveled to La Libertad to record “the wedding of the year”, where personalities from the Spanish aristocracy and prominent politicians from the European country attended.

Far from being indignant, the 'Magpie' assured that the images that went viral in networks, in which indigenous women appear seated in reverence, were taken out of context and that, in reality, they did not seek to offend anyone, but to show Trujillo's culture to the world.

“She's very simple, very simple. It seems that he loves Trujillo very much, the land of his maternal ancestors. The pictures he presented along the way, with a sailor, with a band and fireworks... Of course, people on social networks decontextualized these pictures that they presented to their foreign guests. They wanted to show the culture of the north of the country,” said the host.

In turn, he stressed that this type of theme is quite common in other countries. “They have looked down on it and it's not like that. In other countries it is quite natural. In Cartagena, the bride and groom walk the streets with the brunettes who dance and play the drums. It's part of the culture. Well, it was a nice wedding that rocked all of Trujillo,” he said.

WHO IS BELÉN BARNECHEA?

Belén Barnechea is the only daughter of the famous writer Alfredo Barnechea, who was also a candidate for the presidency of Peru in the 2016 elections, and Claudia Ganoza. The young woman studied at Emerson College in Boston, in New York. In 2017, she traveled to Spain to work in advertising and communication.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Barnechea Ganoza decided to launch Casa Manjar, its own business that is focused on the sale of cakes and pastries, as well as other Peruvian sweets. The venture, located in Madrid, where he lives, has been liked by Tamara Falcó, Ariadna Vargas Llosa and Sassa de Osma.

That is why several specialized media in Spain call Belén 'the confectioner of the jet', due to her profession and her constant relationship with the most exclusive social groups in the European country. According to the definition made by the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language (RAE), that “rich and ostentatious international social class” is known as a 'jet set'.
