It makes history in the midst of a pandemic! Don't Tell Me Spinster 2 became the best premiere of a Peruvian film since cinemas reopened in 2021. Yesterday, April 14, the second installment with Patricia Barreto was screened in theatres nationwide and recorded more than 26 thousand attendees on their first day. It should be noted that there has not been such a high figure in national productions since before the health crisis, which caused a delay in the filming and premieres of multiple films made in Peru.
The first part of this story directed by Ani Alva Helfer had a total of 53,419 attendees in 2018, becoming a success for national cinema and a reason for the public to be more than interested in watching a continuation. In October 2020, the film debuted in the streaming market when it was officially integrated into the Netflix platform catalog.
Don't tell me spinster 2 officially hit all the cinemas last April 14 and is already a complete success. Throughout Peru, movie theaters sold out for the performances. The sequel directed by Alva Helfer was initially due to be released in 2020, but it was not released until two years later after being rescheduled due to the closures of cinemas due to the spread of COVID-19. This time, the filmmaker shows us in her style the step towards self-love through a strong message and with a funny and unique story.
Through her social networks, actress Patricia Barreto shared some messages regarding her return to the lead. “It's today! Finally, the wait is over, folks! Don't Tell Me Spinster 2 premiered in every theater nationwide. Thank you for all the love, the messages of affection and respect for my work and for this beautiful project that has made me grow so much, filled my soul and healed my heart. I invite you to enjoy a lot of this sequel made with all the passion and love for our work for all of you. And thank God for blessing each of my projects, to Him I always give my work and my protection in everything,” he wrote in the caption of a photograph of the Avant Premiere.
What is Don't Call Me Spinster 2 about?
“Overcoming the ills of love, Patricia becomes Joseph's cloth of tears: his best friend is unexpectedly devastated by a recent love break. Patricia agrees to advise, but soon realizes that she is in love with him”, notes the film's official synopsis. The story will show us how innocent Patty is willing to support José after seeing him suffer from his breakup, but soon the blindfold will fall out of her eyes. She loves him, and he will have to decide between the value of a long friendship or jump into the fearsome claws of love.
In addition to Barreto, the cast includes André Silva, André Vilchez, Natalia Salas, Anahí de Cardenas, Yidda Eslava, Adolfo Aguilar, Maricarmen Marín and Mexican actress Angelica Aragon. The national film is produced by Big Bang Films and distributed by Diamond Films. The story is an original creation by Aní Alva Helfer, who directed both installments.
Don't Tell Me Spinster 2 can be seen from April 14 in cinemas nationwide. Tickets are on sale Cineplanet, Cinemark, UVK, Movie Time, Cine Star and Cinépolis.
