Carlos Loret de Mola lashed out at AMLO and his revocation of mandate: “Salesman of hopes”

The journalist assured that AMLO will seek to start a political campaign, rather than work for the people

After the preliminary count of the National Electoral Institute (INE) on the revocation of the mandate was announced, there were several opposition figures that were launched against the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), as they did not reach the percentage for their call to be binding.

This was the case of Carlos Loret de Mola, who published in his most recent column in The Washington Post on the revocation of AMLO's mandate, which he labeled as “one of the strongest defeats of his government.”

In this regard, he assured that Andrés Manuel López Obrador's numbers, percentages and results are what matters least to him, since he will use the revocation as a mere instrument that will measure his capacity to mobilize in the states governed by Morena.

He noted, on the other hand, that while AMLO was playing “a match in which only his team jumped onto the court... and he couldn't even score the goals he expected”, his support was gradually decreasing.

For example, he recalled that 3 years ago, in the federal election, AMLO obtained more than 50% citizen participation, that is, a total of up to just over 30 million Mexicans who brought him to power.

However, the 2021 midterm elections proved to be a headache for the Morenoists, as they barely won 21 million votes, thus losing in their territory. During this revocation, there will be just over 17 million voters for the final funding.

These figures will be celebrated by Morena, according to the journalist, in order to expose the narrative that AMLO has the approval of more than 90% of citizens, despite the fact that they allegedly put various obstacles on it.

And although the President of the Republic and the Morenoists insist on the support of the more than 30 million citizens they had at the polls in 2018, the real question would have to be “where are the 30 million Mexicans now”.

This, he said, despite the fact that several people attached to the 4T movement participated in what was called the carrying of people, in addition to the alleged blackmail through support social.

Loret de Mola also pointed out that for now he is trying to convince us that his glass is half full, because “he needs to blur that he has been in government for three years without results” and he needs a pause as a political oxygen.

On the other hand, the journalist considered that this is also a trial of electoral operation, where he showed all his strengths as his weaknesses.

In addition, something good that left all this, is the reading that the Mexican journalist gives to the revocation of the mandate, which he refers to as the attrition of the government. “An X-ray of a people that no longer accompanies the leader in his ego adventures”.

The journalist also assured that, in addition to the above, it was demonstrated that AMLO has more intentions to start a good political campaign than to finish a good term, since it is what works best for him, adding in this sense that he is more like “a seller of hope” and “not a profit manager. Therefore, I wanted to see in the revocation of mandate how many people can count on for the next elections in 2024.

However, he added, if the president has plans over the next few months, those are to organize an onslaught, and “get the INE to be a sold arbitrator and he will buy it from him”.
