Almost two years after her separation from Morena, Senator Lilly Tellez applied to officially join the National Action Party (PAN). This was announced on Monday, March 28, by the president of the National Executive Committee (CEN) of the PAN, Marko Cortés Mendoza.
Through his Twitter account, Marko Cortes welcomed Tellez and celebrated his affiliation to the albiazul party. “I recognize your work, your commitment to our ideals and I know that together we will continue to defend Mexico,” he said. He added that he has many coincidences with the senator from Sonora, so he considered that it will be a strong opposition to the Morenosta government.
For her part, Lilly Tellez thanked the national leader of the PAN and assured that she was ready to carry out her duties. He also recalled one of its founders, Manuel Gómez Morín, and indicated that, like him, he wanted to “move souls” and fight for the dignity of men and women.

It should be recalled that María Lilly del Carmen Téllez García joined the PAN legislative group in the Senate of the Republic in June 2020.
However, the first steps of his political career were taken in the legislative group of the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party (Morena) in September 2018. But due to differences in criteria, Tellez decided to leave the Morenista bench and chose to become a senator without a party. “I remain as a senator without a party, committed to continuing to speak with the truth,” she said in April 2020.
Months later, Mako Cortés announced about the addition of Lilly Tellez to the Auriazul bench in the Senate. On that occasion, the coordinator of the PAN in the Upper House, Mauricio Kuri, welcomed Tellez for “sharing the values” of the party.
One of the biggest differences with Morena is the issue of abortion, since the Senator from Sonora has expressed her position in favor of the right to life, an ideal that is more compatible with the “principles and values” promoted by the PAN. The same is true of the initiative to legalize marijuana in Mexico and equal marriage, since it has shown itself against such measures.
Before dedicating himself to politics, Tellez García developed in journalism for 36 years. At the age of 17, Lilly worked as a reporter on Channel 6 in Hermosillo, Sonora, where she was born on November 14, 1967. She also joined TV Azteca and won the Antena Award, awarded by the Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry, in 2007.
This addition of Tellez to the PAN comes after Marko Cortés announced in early March that Lilly Tellez, as well as Mauricio Vila, Mauricio Kuri, Santiago Creel and Francisco Cabeza de Vaca formed its list of presidential candidates for the 2024 elections.
Finally, it should be noted that Lilly Tellez is currently a member of the committees on Public Security, Health, North American Foreign Affairs and Anti-Corruption, Transparency and Citizen Participation.
