Roberto Sánchez del Mincetur: “We need a Constitutional Court that is proven”

Roberto Sánchez, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, indicated that the government has been analyzing the measures it will take in the face of the Constitutional Court (TC) ruling where the reinstatement of the pardon in favor of Alberto Fujimori is ordered.

“The concrete actions of the government will be announced in the next few hours, that corresponds to the proper evaluation of the Minister of Justice and the president. But we cannot panic and despair. We must act as a State that looks at all its Peruvians, no matter how disfound we are. We need forgiveness and justice to be a reality for all,” he said.

He added that the justice he repairs, that which derives from forgiveness, from reconciliation, is not a legal, jurisdictional or political reality in the country. Hence, it reaffirms “the need for justice for such mixed reasons not to have an echo in some of the entities such as the TC”.

While he pointed out that they respect the highest body of constitutional justice, as well as respect all the institutions of the country, they also ask for the legitimacy of bringing all the reasoning, all the remedies to have sentences that redress with real justice, and there is no such feeling of indignation that many Peruvians feel, he said the minister in a personal capacity, especially since there are still hundreds of families who continue to ghost their dead and we see that there are many victims without reparation.

“Of course we call for reconciliation, to encounter, we do not stir up hatred, but justice must be full. In that sense, I can tell you that the government is evaluating the various positions, which the Deputy Minister of Justice has already stated, with the clarity that justice and jurisprudence will prove the country's national sentiment right,” he said.

Regarding what the president of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, said that the TC must disappear, Sánchez indicated that he understands the emotional and legitimate position that the citizen and premier has taken and stressed that it is a personal opinion. “You also get upset when our institutions that must protect our rights do not assist us, what is the point of it,” he said. However, he said that we must act objectively.

The Judiciary, the Prosecutor's Office, the Constitutional Court all have their functions. Given this, if we think that we are not in protection and protection, the minister indicates that we have supreme institutions that can also regulate and order.

On the demonstrations of people who speak out against Fujimori's freedom, he said that there is a respectful feeling of social peace among the people on the street who come out indignant. “Basically, the message is that we need a Constitutional Court that does not have its responsibility defeated, we need one that is probo, where the people elected in a fair meritocratic democratic process are chosen not by a Congress that does not measure up, but because of the probity of their ethics , the democratic mettle that the country needs. The TC should be an entity that promotes encounter and peace,” said Sánchez

He added that in the next few hours we need to be sensible, have a lot of peace and no hatred, so that justice becomes a reality and that historical fracture of disagreements that we do not need today is eliminated.

On other issues, the head of the Mincetur also referred to the appointment of Daniel Salaverry as presidential adviser, following his failed appointment to Petroperú. “The president makes his decisions, if there is a consultant like Salaverry there will be a space where he can honorably support. But we are not talking about binding positions to have public affairs in decision,” he said.
