IOC Session
The 128th IOC Session is underway in Kuala Lumpur.
The nearly 100 members of the IOC will conclude the series of meetings on Aug. 4.
Members of the IOC Executive Board arrived in the Malaysia capital on July 27. The host for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Beijing, China, was announced on July 31.
Tokyo 2020 Additional Sports Panel
Organizers in Tokyo will hold talks with each of the federations under consideration for the 2020 Olympic Program Aug. 7-8.
The organizing committee announced the IOC-recognized international federations proposing additional events for the Games on June 22. A total of 28 sports are already on the program.
At the start of the process, the Additional Event Program Panel sorted through 26 interested applicants. On the shortlist are baseball/softball, bowling, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, surfing and wushu.
Tokyo 2020 will propose its final additional events proposal to the IOC by Sept. 30.Final approval will come at the 129th IOC Session in Rio in August 2016.
Aquatics World Championships
The 2015 World AquaticsChampionships are underway in Kazan, Russia.This marks the first time that Russia will host the event.
Competition, which ends Aug. 9, includes events in swimming, open water swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo.
The high diving competition is also serving as a qualifier for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
