(ATR) The Youth Olympic Games must finds its "positioning" in the Olympic Movement, says a recommendation fromthe Youth Olympic Games working group.
A tripartite commission started by the IOC Executive Board, including National Olympic Committees and International Federations will review all aspects of the YOG and make its findings to the Session says the recommendation.
IOC member Ser Miang Ng, , in charge of the first YOG in Singapore in 2010, leads the working group.
For now, the biggest change to the Games is that they will now take place in non-Olympic years. The fourth edition of the YOG was delayed from 2022 to 2023.
Announced by former IOC president Jacques Rogge in 2010, the YOG has struggled to find a foothold within the Olympics. Many are still wondering about the purpose, and cities have been lukewarm toward hosting the event.
Lillehammer, which hosts the second Winter YOG in 2016, was the lone bidder. The 2020 Youth Olympics have two bid cities. Interest is seemingly higher with the Summer YOG. Seven cities began formal bids for the 2018 Youth Olympics, ultimately awarded to Buenos Aires.
