(ATR)The 2014 Asian Games are underway in Incheon, South Korea.

This is the largest sporting event staged in Asia, hosted by the Olympic Council of Asia, with a program set to feature over 430 events across 36 disciplines.Hockey events will serve as qualifiers for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

The closing ceremony for the 17th edition of the Asian Games takes place on Oct. 4.

USOC Board Meeting

The Unites States Olympic Committee's board is meeting in Chicago this week.

Council meetings take place Sept. 25 and Sept. 26. Following the meetings on Friday, USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun and USOC chairman Larry Probst will hold a press briefing.

Media not attending the briefing in Chicago can tune in via teleconference. Anaudio recording of the press briefing will also beposted to the USOC's website.

First Coordination Commission for 2018 YOG

The Coordination Commission for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games meets for the first time this week in Buenos Aires.

The commission, chaired by Olympian and IOC member Frank Fredericks, includes:Danka Bartekova, Lingwei Li, Barry Maister, Henry Nunez, and Adham Sharara.

The third edition of the Summer YOG is set to begin September 11, 2018.

FIBA Women's World Cup

The International Basketball Federation opens the 2014 Women's Basketball World Cup on Sept. 27. Competition, which ends on Oct. 5, will take place in Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey.

The Women's Basketball World Cup will serve as a qualifying event for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

UCI Road World Championships

Cyclists competing in the 2014 Road World Championships pedal on in Ponferrada, Spain through Sept. 28.

This marks the seventh time the International Cycling Union has stage the road world championships in Spain. Lasarte hosted the event in 1965, Montjuic in 1973, Barcelona in 1984, Benidorm in 1992, San Sebastian in 1997, and Madrid in 2005.

The UCI management committee will meet on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25 int Ponferrada, as the road world championships come to a close.

FIVB Women's World Championships

The International Volleyball Federation is staging the 2014 Women's Volleyball World Championships in Italy, Sept. 23 through Oct. 12.

Bari, Milan, Modena, Rome, Trieste, and Verona will host matches for the tournament. In all, 24 teams will compete at the world championships.

Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships

Izmir, Turkey is hosting the 2014 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships through Sept. 28.

The International Gymnastics Federation saysover 300 of the world's top rhythmic gymnasts, including seven 2012 Olympians, will gather in Izmir for the world championships.

Copa America Femenina

The 2014 Copa America Femenina, South America's biggest football tournament for women, is underway in Ecuador.

The seventh edition of theCopa America Femenina will act as aqualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.The tournament ends Sept. 28.
