
(ATR) The World Taekwondo Federation will take its 2013 world championships to the Mexican city of Puebla.
The decision was taken Monday by the WTF Council at the Renaissance Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
Split, Croatia was the other bidder for the biennial championships, scheduled for June 17 to 23 of 2013.
The WTF is in the region for its junior world champs beginning Wednesday in Sharm El Sheikh.
WTF president Chungwon Choue oversaw Monday's meeting, which included Council members from all over the world.
They unanimously approved to the enactment of bylaws on betting and anti-corruption in line with IOC guidelines.
The Council also looked ahead to the Summer Olympics with a briefing on preparations for the taekwondo competition at London 2012. Athletes will compete at ExCeL, where a test event was staged last December.
In other aspects of the four-hour meeting, the Council approved Seychelles as theWTF's 201st member.
But the Caribbean country wasn't the only new arrival in the federation. President Choue also gave a letter of appointment to the WTF's new secretary general, Jean-Marie Ayer, as well as to two new WTF Council members – Heinz Gruber of Germany and Milan Kwee of Singapore.
The 9th World Junior Taekwondo Championships will run Wednesday to Sunday of this week. Young athletes from more than 90 countries are here in Egypt to compete at the Sharm El Sheikh Covered Hall.
Chinese Taipei will host the 2014 World Junior Taekwondo Championships in New Taipei City from July 23 to 27 of 2014. Senegal also benefited from Monday's meeting, earning the right to host both the 2013 WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships and the 4th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships in Dakar.
