(ATR) The International Triathlon Union hosted its third bi-annual Science and Triathlon conference at France's National Institute of Sports in Paris.

The two-day seminar explored a multitude of topics covering triathlon training techniques and advances in the sport's technology.

"We began this conference six years ago because we wanted to create an environment that promotes further research in triathlon," said ITU president and IOC member Marisol Casado.

More than 250 people attended the conference from 45 countries. Attendees listened to presentations with the overarching theme of"Peaking for Rio, preparing for Tokyo and beyond".

Case studies were also presented at the conference covering topics such as techniques of successful athletes, research on best training practices, optimal nutrition and training in extreme conditions.

The next edition of the Science and Triathlon conference will be held in Edmonton in 2017.
