Global Sports Week Targets Youth -- Conferences & Conventions

(ATR) Global Sports Week opens the application process for the 2021 Young Sports Maker program.

The 35 young people selected will again be center-stage at the second edition of Global Sports Week, which will run from Feb. 1-5, 2021.

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 on January 1, 2021 and be involved in sportas an athlete, coach, organizer, student, volunteer, business professional, entrepreneur or activist. Click here to apply.

Young Sports Makers will be recruited from around the world, with a mission to shape debates and challenge top leaders in person or through virtual events depending on their location.

Unlike its debut in January in Paris, Global Sports Week will have a new multi-country format this time around.

Five continental hubs in Tokyo, Beijing, Dakar, Milan and Los Angeles will be connected live to a central base in Paris.

A virtual platform will link events across the venues and extend participation to up to 10,000 people worldwide.

Live spots from iconic sports venues in cities around the world will also form part of the program.

Inaugural SportsPro Asia This Month

The inaugural SportsPro Asia will be virtual on Oct. 21-22. Each five-hour day will run from 1 pm – 6pm Singapore time (0500-1000 GMT).

SportsPro Asia is a new adaptation of the OTT Summit Asia, with a wider cross-section that includes digital and social media as well as OTT.

International Table Tennis Federation CEO Steve Dainton is among the speakers lined up for the event.

It will be the second SportsPro online event within five weeks.

The seventh edition of SportsPro Live, with the theme "Driving the new era of sports", was held on Sept. 16-17, with each six-hour day running from 12 pm-6pm BST (1100-1700 GMT).

There were 40 sessions available with 65 industry leading speakers on the docket, including representatives from Manchester United, the San Francisco 49ers, the Boston Celtics, Wimbledon, Formula 1, and the European Golf Tour.

Change of Format for Esports Venue Summit

The inaugural Esports Venue Summit will now be offered in only a virtual format in October.

The live event was originally scheduled for London’s Twickenham Stadium, the home of England rugby, on Oct. 21-22. But the ongoing pandemic has moved the date back to July 21-22, 2021.

The virtual version will still run from Oct. 26-29. Organizers describe the new forum as the only one dedicated solely to esports venues and spaces.

The Esports Venue Summit Virtual Week will provide four afternoons of sessions with speakers and panelists from every aspect of the esports world represented, including tournament organizers, games publishers, team owners, players, esports property owners, esports venue operators, and key technology suppliers.

Those who had already purchased the live summit delegate pass will be able to either transfer their pass to the next available live event or use it for the virtual event with the cost difference being refunded.

ISC Virtual Week in December

The International Sports Convention will host ISC Virtual Week from December 7-11.

The so-called "meeting place for the business of sport" will hold six virtual summits during the week.

The topics will be Fan Engagement (Dec. 7), OTT and Sports Broadcast (Dec. 8), Sports Events (Dec. 9), Brands and Sponsorship (Dec. 10), Sports Investment and Finance (Dec. 10), and Sports Integrity (Dec. 11).

The coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 International Sports Convention. It was set to be held at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London after many years in Amsterdam and Geneva.

Organizers will try again in 2021, with the new dates of June 8-9 bringing the global sports business industry together at the new venue.

Host City 2020's "Big Restart"

The seventh edition of the Host City conference and exhibition will now be a virtual-only event in December.

Organizers had planned to return to Glasgow, Scotland in November and hold the physical event in conjunction with an online platform but the coronavirus pandemic has derailed that.

It was announced last week that the annual international meeting of cities and sports will now be on December 8-9, hosted virtually by EventScotland and Glasgow Life.

The theme for this year remains "The Big Restart: Recovery with a Purpose for the Digital Age".

The theme's five pillars include Covid Recovery; Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance; Digital Acceleration; Future Cities; and Partnerships.

Host City Conference Director Ben Avison tells Around the Rings "the agenda is more value-driven than ever before".

IOC member and former WADA president Craig Reedie, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games CEO Ian Reid, and Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk, Poland's minister of sports and tourism, are among the speakers who have signed on for the conference.

Organizers expect "many more" speakers to be announced in the next two to three weeks.

Virtual Smart Cities & Sport Summit

This year’s Smart Cities & Sport Summit will be 100 percent virtual and free for all city entities.

Organizers say the summit, which will be held on Oct. 27-28, will be streamed via a dedicated online platform and will be available live and in replay.

Forums will be open for discussions among the attendees.

The sessions will be offered at three different times throughout the day to maximize the number of people who can join live and take part in the discussions as they take place.

The available times are from 09:00-11:00, 13:00-15:00 and 18:00-20:00 CET. Discussion forums will remain open after sessions.

For the first time, the Smart Cities & Sport Marketplace will be run as an online forum which will open one week ahead the Summit and be available throughout. This will allow cities and international federations to get in touch and arrange meetings at their convenience in order to share their ambitions regarding the hosting of future events.
