Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela
Ciudad Bolivar is bidding for its first Pan American Games, and proposes the games be held from September 20 to October 6, 2019.
The bid is looking to bring the Pan American Games to Venezuela for the first time since 1983.
Ciudad Bolivar hosted matches for the 2007 Copa America, women’s baseball and softball world tournaments in 2010, and the Ibero-American Athletics Championships in 2012 showcasing the city’s international sporting experience. Ciudad Bolivar boasts a population of 1.4 million people.
The Olympic Village will be located in the planned Pan American City district. Accommodations for 12,000 athletes will be built for the games. The village will be located 10 minutes away from most of the venues.
Bolivar State International Airport will provide travel into Venezuela with the Games providing free transportation for athletes, personnel, and media to the athletes' village and venues.
The opening and closing ceremonies will take place in Ciudad Bolivar’s Athletics Stadium. The theme for the ceremonies will be "Coexistence in Multicultural Diversity," and will honor the culture and spirit of the delegations attending the games.
All sports included in the Rio 2016 Olympic program will be featured in the 2019 Pan American program. Any changes made to the program for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo will be considered.
La Punta, Argentina
La Punta is a new municipality within the San Luis Province of Argentina, designed specifically to host the Pan American Games. La Punta proposes the games be held in October 2019.
Argentina last hosted the Pan American Games in 1995.
The theme for the Games is "sustainability," and the city of La Punta is "fully conceived under inclusion of green policies." All venues and the Athletes Village will be completely new and built under strict environmental standards making the entire games complex sustainable.
An athletes' village accommodating 9,000 will be built for the games, after which it will be used for student housing and apartments in the new incorporated city.
Three airports serve the surrounding area in San Luis, and infrastructure connecting them to the Pan American Games site will be built. Valle del Conlera International Airport in Villa de Merlo, Villa Reynolds Airport in Villa Mercedes, and Brigadier Mayor Cesar Ojeda Airport in San Luis will serve the games.
The Opening Ceremony will take place two days before competition begins, in an unspecified venue.
Lima, Peru
After losing the 2015 Pan American Games to Toronto, Lima is bidding for the 2019 edition. They propose the Games would be held July 26 - August 11, 2019.
Peru has never hosted a Pan American Games.
Lima recently hosted the 2013 IOC Sport for All Convention, 2011 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, 2011 FIVB World Juniors Volleyball Championships, the 2013 World Junior Weightlifting Championships, and the 2004 Copa America to gain international hosting experience for the bid.
The athletes' village will accommodate up to 9,000 athletes and is located in the El Callao district of Lima.
Lima has a population of 10.4 million people and is served by Jorge Chavez International Airport. Free transportation to the athletes' village and competition venues will be provided.
The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the 45,000-seat National Stadium, which is accessible to downtown Lima by public transportation.
The Games will feature the complete 2020 Olympic sports program in two major venue clusters. The main cluster will be located only 20 minutes away from the athletes' village, while the second cluster is located 40 minutes away from the village.
Santiago, Chile
Santiago prepared a bid for the 2011 Pan American Games, but did not complete the process. They propose the games be held from October 8-25, 2019.
Chile has never hosted a Pan American Games.
Santiago will host the 2014 South American Games and, according to a report from PASO, 2019 "would be a natural continuation of efforts and preparations already in place."
The athletes' village will be located in the Cerrillos district of Santiago, 15 minutes away from the National Stadium. The village can accommodate up to 9,000 athletes.
Santiago has a population of just over 16.5 million people, and is the largest city bidding for the Games.
Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez Airport will provide transportation into and out of Santiago, and free transportation to venues will be provided at the airport.
Chile’s National Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and has a capacity of 60,000 spectators. The sports program will include all sports chosen for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and other sports confirmed by PASO.
