MONTREAL (October 8, 2009) – Corus Québec is bringing Francophones the latest news and buzz surrounding the 2010 Winter Games with a new daily 15-minute radio segment launching this week on five Corus Québec stations across the province.

Hosted by amateur sports expert and well-known personality Jean Chartrand, the segment airs Monday to Friday from 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET and will continue through February 2010. Topics include an overview of the various sports at Vancouver 2010 with a strong focus on Francophone hopefuls, the history of the Olympic Games and success of Quebec athletes, benefits of hosting the Olympic Games on home soil, and hot-button and relevant issues that may impact the Games. The daily features will help raise awareness and build profile for the issues and sports that are important to French Canadians while simultaneously celebrating the Olympic spirit.

Chartrand will also report on highlights and results from World Cup and World Championship circuits this season. The results of these competitions will be instrumental in determining the athletes and teams who will participate at Vancouver 2010.

Corus Québec, the exclusive French-language radio partner with CTV as part of Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, will air the segment on its flagship all-sports station CKAC Sports in Montreal, as well as on its Souvenirs Garantis Network 102.9 FM Quebec, 98.3 FM Saguenay, 107.7 FM Estrie and 106.9 FM Mauricie.

“Historically, Quebec athletes have performed extremely well at the Olympic Games and the success of these athletes has instilled a tremendous amount of pride throughout the country. The new programming that we’re launching this week will continue to build on that emotional connection as we tell exciting stories and discuss relevant issues about the upcoming 2010 Winter Games,” said Yves Bombardier, General Manager of CKAC Sports and 98.5 FM.

Corus Québec will provide live French-language radio coverage of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as all of Team Canada’s men’s and women’s hockey games, including the highly anticipated gold medal finals. Popular Corus Québec broadcasters Martin McGuire and Dany Dubé will bring viewers all the action. Corus Québec will also be live on site in Vancouver to broadcast hourly updates with results/stories/news, interviews and features with athletes, scene setters that look ahead to the next day’s activities, and daily recaps that wrap up the entire day’s events.
