The Bahrain Olympic Committee signed an agreement with the International Council for Health,
Physical Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (ICHPER.SD) to host the 56th ICHPER.SD
Anniversary World Congress and Exposition later this year.
This four-day congress, which will focus on the theme ‘Towards building a new sports system’,
is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 3 with around 800 officials from 120
countries from all over the world in attendance.
BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, BOC board member Dr Khalid Al Alawi, ICHPER.SD
honourary president Dong Yang and council president Dr Adel Nashar signed the agreement, in
the presence of BOC member Isa Abdulrahim.
Askar said the agreement is in compliance with the directives of Supreme Council for Youth and
Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in an attempt to link
science with sport.
He noted that the committee would harness all its abilities to ensure the success of this
congress, which will bring up several significant scientific research papers that are linked to
health, sports, physical education and recreation.
"The main theme of the conference embraces the Olympic movement and the academic field of
concern and scientific aspects of sports and social development, sports marketing and
sponsorship issues," said Yang after the agreement-signing ceremony.
"Some of the objectives of the congress is to promote active lifestyle and how important it is
related to personal, physical and mental health and also promote general physical activities in
this country.
The participating countries will present these subjects in the area of their respective countries
and citizens involvement and engagements of physical activities for physical fitness purpose of
the people," added Yang.
"This congress is an awakening momentum to the Olympic movement populations of Bahrain
and ministry of education because this is the development that concerns the physical
education program for all stages".
"Our organization is committed to fostering the essence of education in Health, Physical
Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (HPERSD) fields through international understanding
and goodwill, safeguarding peace, freedom, and respect for human dignity. We also seek to
promote quality HPERSD programs, professional standards, scholarly pursuits, research, and
exchanges of knowledge among its constituent members, as well as other concerned
professionals and institutions," further explained Yang.
The council recognizes distinguished scholars, researchers, contributors and administrators in
the field of HPERSD and the Olympic Movement throughout the world, to encourage highest
standards and excellence in the professions/disciplines of HPERSD.
