This Wednesday, April 20, Arturo Zaldívar, chief minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), announced that he will visit Santa Martha Penitentiary to dialogue with women deprived of their liberty by virtue of seeking to improve the conditions of women prisoners.

Through a press conference, the minister said that this is a project that was coordinated with the government of Mexico City and is expected to have positive results in the living conditions of more than 600 women.

She noted that she established communication with Claudia Sheinbaum, head of government of the CDMX, who was enthusiastic about the plan of the President of the Supreme Court, where it was agreed to establish a joint agenda aimed at social welfare.

He also announced that the federal judiciary will establish an agreement with the local administration of the Mexican capital so that public defenders registered with the Federal Institute of the Public Defender's Office can contribute to proceedings where there is a matter of violation of human rights. He pointed out that the purpose is “to support the public defender's office in the CDMX in the broadest possible way”

However, his most important announcement was the response he gave to all those who criticized the process and criteria of the SCJN vote regarding the dismissal of the action of unconstitutionality of the reform of the Electricity Industry Law (LIE). In this regard, the one versed in law pointed out two aspects.

The first was to deny and clarify, once and for all, that he did not influence or modify the vote of his fellow ministers. In this regard, he said that he repeatedly consulted the members of the SCJN Chamber to be sure of the meaning of his vote, something that was recorded in a public session and televised live.

In order for citizens to understand what is happening, Arturo Zaldívar pointed out that there are fundamental political and electoral interests, where some academics demonstrate their lack of ethics in order to challenge a segment of the electorate and influence their judgment.

Finally, he made a statement about commentocracy and the intellectuals who promote this interpretation of the vote, since he assured that they intend to appropriate the unique meaning of the Constitution and start from the assumption that everything AMLO does is unconstitutional and therefore, anyone who votes in favor of it, “at that moment stops to be independent and deserves all the qualifications that have been given and because they have [...] and if they are insults it gives them more pleasure (because) they want to replace with insults what they do not have in votes”.
