The Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Tuesday that, following the response to the Russian offensive in the east of the country, they managed to recover the city of Marianka, located on the outskirts of Donetsk, while in Izium they managed to withdraw troops from Russia.

The General Command of the Ukrainian Army published its official daily balance sheet on Facebook, in which it stressed that the response in Marianka led to several casualties in the Russian Armed Forces, resulting in a withdrawal and consequent Ukrainian domination of the locality.

Similarly, in Izium, in the northeast, Ukrainian troops managed to repel a Russian offensive and also caused significant casualties in the enemy ranks, forcing them to withdraw to previous positions.

Thus, the Ukrainian military authorities showed that the first hours of the announced new offensive in the Donbas region were met with effective resistance, although they regretted that Russia continued to attack civilian and military infrastructures by land and air throughout the territory.

In fact, Ukraine denounced that the Russian Army uses the network of Belarusian airports to, from there, launch its air strikes on its targets.

Ukrainian authorities today reported three more deaths in the last Russian bombings recorded on Tuesday on Kharkiv, the second city of the country and under heavy enemy fire for weeks.

According to local sources, the recent bombings on Kharkiv, in the east of the country, have also left 16 people injured.

The authorities of the region have also warned the population that the intensity of the shelling has increased in recent hours and strongly encouraged citizens to stay in their shelters.

The attacks on Kharkiv, where nine more fatalities were reported on Monday, take place while Kiev confirmed last night the start of the great Russian offensive on the east of the country, with the intention of controlling the entire Donbas. It is estimated that the front stretches for 480 kilometers.

In parallel, the siege of Mariupol, the strategic city in the south of the country, continues, where Russian troops have repeatedly urged surrender to the last resistant Ukrainian soldiers, barricaded in the Azovstal steel works with an unknown number of civilians.

Chess game

At the end of March, Russia announced that it would focus its offensive on eastern and southern Ukraine and withdrew its forces from the outskirts of Kiev, the capital.

Kharkiv - about 21 kilometers from the Russian border - is now one of the cities that hinder the Russian advance.

At least five people were killed on Sunday in a bombing attack on a residential neighborhood in this town, which had about 1.4 million inhabitants before the war. On Monday, other attacks caused at least three deaths, according to local authorities.

The missiles fell when AFP had just left the “zero point”.
