Maribel Guardia recalled her Latin Grammy nomination: “Gruperos came on me”

Maribel Guardia has projected herself as a multifaceted personality throughout her career, acting, dancing and singing; that is why a few years ago when she entered the world of music, where she won great awards, such as being nominated for the Latin Grammy, had to deal with the offense of several members of Mexican group and regional music.

It was in a morning interview for Grupo Imagen, Sale el Sol, that the Costa Rican-born and who has formed a career in the entertainment industry in Mexico, delved into the attacks she received when she was nominated for the Latin Grammys in 2017 for the category “Best Disco Band” for her album Besos Callejeros .

“Gruperos came on me, and I 'orale', because it had never been my turn for men to attack women, it's like out of place. I think that when someone is doing well, what you should do is wish them good luck, but if some were outraged that I was nominated. [...] But in general the genre does not matter, envy is very ugly, in very bad taste”, argued the also host.

The 62-year-old historian did not miss the opportunity to elevate the figure of Ana Bárbara, as she has been one of the women who has opened up the women's panorama in a Mexican group and regional industry, which is hegemonically plagued by the male sector.

“Especially in the area we are in, which is the grupera, which is nominated by men, but it is great that we are still there and that we have jobs in a world of men, but there we are. I am always excited that new generations are coming that are going to venture into this genre”, emphasized with enthusiasm the Costa Rican actress who gave life to Isabella Ruiz in the melodrama, A lucky family.

During her Grammy nomination in 2017, the performer competed for the gramophone award with Lalo Mora and El Chapo de Sinaloa, Cruz Lizarraga's Band El Recodo and Salvador Lizárraga's La Original Banda El Limón.

Ever since she learned of her nomination, Julián Figueroa's mother, who was conceived during her relationship with the renowned and late Mexican singer-songwriter, Joan Sebastian, defended herself for the mockery received towards the album that positioned her with the best of the Mexican regional in the renowned gala.

“I'm going to tell you something: 'Let them bark, sign that I'm riding. ' It is that people must also understand that this is not an album in the career of Maribel Guardia, it is for the Best Band Album, because it is very well produced and it is very well done [...] They don't look at my trajectory or people, but on work and period. It will not seem to many people, but it does seem to many people,” he said at the time in an interview for Televisa Espectáculos.
