Fray Vasquez Castillo, one of the nephews of President Pedro Castillo and who has a preliminary prison order, appeared this Monday, March 11, although through video call, to testify before Judge Manuel Chuyo, of the Second Preparatory Investigation Court of the Supreme Court of Justice of Lima, at the hearing evaluating the request for 36 months of preventive detention against him; against his cousin, Gian Marco Castillo Gómez; former Secretary of the Palace, Bruno Pacheco; and others involved in the Puente Tarata case.
Around 11:15 in the morning, Vasquez Castillo connected to the virtual audience from the place where he is hiding. He indicated that he is “safe” and considered that the accusations against him are to harm the government of his uncle, Pedro Castillo.
“Like my cousin Gian Marco Castillo, we are part of a political and media persecution. I have been safe, Mr. Magistrate, because the intentions of the prosecutor (Karla Zecenarro) on this issue is to want to hurt not me, but the government of the day,” he said.
In addition, he said he knew businessman Zamir Villaverde only because of the rental of vehicles and denied knowing any official of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
After giving his statements, Judge Manuel Chuyo concluded the hearing and said that he will read his decision on Tuesday, April 12 at 4:00 p.m.
