They broke into a building on the Rambla in Punta del Este earlier this week and opened a safe deposit box that allowed them access to at least $20,000 in cash, a Rolex watch and various jewels. This happened in one of the units in which the criminals entered, but they also did so in three others, although it did not yet transcend if there were missing items.
When police personnel arrived, they were found to enter the openings of four apartments through violence and the lack of objects such as money, jewelry, watches and objects of lesser value.
The police headquarters of Maldonado reported in an official statement on this situation in the early afternoon of this Wednesday: “It is known that the building located on Rambla Lorenzo Pacheco, stop 29 of Playa Brava, at unknown hours of the night had entered several apartments in Torre III.”
News sources announced that the total amount of money stolen would be about $80,000 from the four units of the Indigo Building, but the Police indicated that there were no reports of that amount of money so far and that they were only “versions,” reported FM Gente.
According to the little information that police officers were able to gather about these robberies, it is believed that the mode of access to the building and others in the area would have been escalation. The investigation of what happened by the Investigations staff and the Prosecutor's Office of the 1st Turn of Maldonado, department that contains the city of Punta del Este, is continuing.
A big robbery in Punta del Este in 2022
On February 16, a 70-year-old man was absent from home in a complex called Bulevar Park in Punta del Este. The next morning, the building manager contacted the owner to let him know that he had left a window in his house open.
Upon returning, the owner found that those who had entered his apartment through the window, which had been forced, stole $100,000 in cash and $20,000 in gold bars from a safe deposit box, which is why he proceeded to file the complaint.
As a result, the Maldonado Headquarters launched an investigation that related to other robberies carried out on the same day and at the same time in that complex. Film records were collected, managing to identify a van in which three persons involved in the robbery were being transported. With the support of several Units, an operation was set up and the vehicle was located in the Solanas area. After a police chase for attempted escape, it was found that it had been stolen on January 8, 2021 in Montevideo and that it was circulating with a denounced license plate.
The work of the Scientific Police allowed to establish the participation of the same vehicle in a robbery on February 22 in a house where they took a laptop, a safe and $150, among other objects.
Once the detainees were brought to justice, Rodolfo Waldemar Reveles Morales, aged 28, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison; S.B.Z., 25, to 14 months in prison; and Diego Martín Rodríguez Galli, aged 30, to eight months in prison.
