Raymundo Riva Palacio warns possible extension of AMLO's mandate in Mandate Revocation

The Mandate Revocation Consultation is approaching and behind it, officials related to the self-proclaimed Fourth Transformation (Q4) and the president of Mexico himself are dragging a long list of violations of the electoral ban.

Similarly, the consultation that will determine whether or not the president will continue his mandate has been seen by analysts, journalists and politicians as a way in which Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) seeks to extend his term as president of the nation.

This idea is shared by journalist Raymundo Riva Palacio in his new column for the media EjeCentral, where he states that it has been pointed out that it is a ruse to promote his ego, but the journalist alludes that it may not be just that.

He claims that it is “reductionist to look into the president's vanity at the goal of the consultation without looking for anything additional”, arguing that the president, even though he deepened that he would not re-elect himself and at the end of his term would retire from public life, warns that the chief executive is “sending signals suggesting extraordinary actions to extraordinary situations”.

Riva Palacio referred to the army's demand to prevent the halting of the Maya Train project as “an act of defence of the people.” And he claims that for him to transcend he needs the weapons on his side, so he made the army his accomplice to carry out his works and projects.

The foregoing granting the generals budget, privileges and above all power. The generals are the ones who hold it and give it legitimacy, said the journalist. And he recalled the case of Luis Rodríguez Bucio, who participated in promoting the Revocation of Mandate last weekend.

“Laws don't matter; institutions don't matter either,” the writer declared in the face of violations of the electoral ban and the use of the armed forces for their purposes. The institution founded in 1913 belongs to him, the Federal Army “was the last frontier of the Mexican State, and now it belongs to López Obrador”.

For Riva Palacio, this was manifested in the measures taken against the mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Sandra Cuevas, in the face of the legal process she faced over complaints of police officers who were assaulted by the mayor. Measures that were implemented, according to the columnist, by the head of government Claudia Sheinbaum.

These had to end with Ricardo Monreal's request for his release, since the political cost of the revocation of the mandate that a conflict with him would entail was something that the president did not want, so Riva Palacio ruled that “The law does not stop him”.

Dr. Sheinbaum Pardo stated that she is Obrador's presidential option and that it was established by denying that the Secretary of Government, Adán Augusto López, was the candidate.

However, in the journalist's opinion, this will not be definitive, as many challenges remain ahead, such as the discontent of the United States with the Electric Reform and the “deterioration of its management, aggravated by a growing social mood”.

Therefore, he said that the consultation to be held on Sunday, April 10, is a “political laboratory”, because if Sheinbaum does not show up to it, AMLO will not have any survival cards, so he must propose an extension of his mandate.

For in the face of the defenselessness of his projects from the “American interests”, it only remains for him to take care of it himself through this resource.
