Just over a month after her disappearance in Mexico, Mary Elena Jurado, a 22-year-old Colombian girl, returned home, her family announced. Her parents said at the time that on February 27 they had lost communication with the young woman. With no idea of her whereabouts, the family finally received the news that the woman had been kidnapped by the criminal organization San Nicolás de Tolentino. Through a call, the captors demanded $5,000 for his release, of which the family managed to send $2,500.

“Thank God he's safe with his family. She is gradually going to recover from that trauma she experienced without knowing about her family, locked up for more than a month. The family will give details later,” reported Millerlad Sanabria, a friend of her parents, who confirmed that Mary Elena returned to her home located in the municipality of Geneva, Valle del Cauca.

Jurado arrived in Mexico after he received a proposal for work that, apparently, would improve his economic conditions considerably. Her boyfriend, told the family in testimonies collected by Blu Radio, had been there for eight months, so he supported her to leave.

The man also lost track of the woman when she arrived in Mexico. According to information from that station, the man had helped him get a job as a collector 'drop by drop'. “We thought they were going to be together, but it turns out that when they gave her the job they left her two hours from where her boyfriend was,” said Mesías Jurado, Mary Elena's father.

According to what the couple of the then-disappeared woman reported, during the first 15 days of the woman's stay in Mexico, she was in Valle de Bravo, a town located 140 kilometers from Mexico City.

“We were always in contact with her via cell phone. February 18 was the last conversation, when he told us that he was going to visit Colorines, a town located in the southwest of the state of Mexico. Since then we haven't heard from her,” her father revealed for Caracol Radio. The man had already requested help from the Geneva Municipal Government and the Chancellery to advance the search.

Not only did the relatives have to go through the anguish of the kidnapping, but they also feared for the woman's life when the criminal group holding her sent them a photo of a body covered with a sheet. At that time Mary's father said: “That picture doesn't look like her, her hands look too big and are covered, you don't see her arms, you just see her face.”

“On Tuesday, February 22, her boss called, telling me what had happened to my daughter, who had been kidnapped by a subversive group outside the law, in the state of Valle Bravo, San Nicolás de Tolentino (...) On Saturday, February 26, the commander who has our daughter kidnapped at the moment called my wife telling her to please remove all the photos and videos that were on social networks in Mexico City, which for the welfare of our daughter,” he told RCN Radio.

“We removed the photographs, everything that was uploaded on social media. Then they called us and asked us for a sum of money of 5,000 dollars and because we don't have that sum (...) We did it through a virtual lawsuit at the Colombian Embassy that is in Mexico and here, in La Personería they also collaborated with us, but so far we have no news of anything,” he added to Noticias RCN.

For the time being, no details have been given regarding the liberation of women, but it was detailed that she is safe and sound.
