Last Tuesday, March 29, Colombia was out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar despite beating Venezuela 1-0 on the last day of the South American qualifier, with a penalty goal from James Rodríguez. The triumph of the coffee team in its visit to Cachamay, in the city of Puerto Ordaz, was futile because of Peru's parallel victory against Paraguay, 2-0, which gave Ricardo Gareca's team the World Cup play-off against the fifth in Asia, in June, with the United Arab Emirates and Australia as possible rivals.

James scored in the 45+4 minute, in a maximum penalty that had to be repeated, as his first attempt was blocked by Wuilker Faríñez, but the Brazilian referee Wilton Sampaio ordered a repayment because the goalkeeper vinotinto had been a couple of steps ahead of the time of execution. Colombia finished the qualifier in sixth place with 3 points, one less than Peru, which leaves it out of the World Cup after successively having been present in Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.

After the match between Junior de Barranquilla and Alianza Petrolera, the 'shark' striker, Miguel Ángel Borja, gave a press conference in which he spoke about the Colombian national team and strongly criticized the press.

“It was a difficult time. The issue of the national team is very important for you as a Colombian player and as a fan, but it was everyone's responsibility, not just Miguel Borja, of a whole team that has great players. These are moments that pass”, he began by mentioning Borja.

And he said that the press has always wanted to hurt the national team. In addition, it included former players who are currently working in the media. Now he hopes to forget that chapter of Playoffs and focus on double competition with Junior, who is playing in the BetPlay League and the Copa Sudamericana.

“I said it a few days ago, sometimes the press, your colleagues and others are a little harsh and try to hurt the selection with the comments they make. There are some who were players and who forget that those bad times also happened, they completely forget because they have a microphone in their hand. These are difficult times, it happened and you have to turn the selection page. I have a very big commitment to my family and Junior's fans,” he added.

Finally, remember that in terms of the dates of the South American Qualifiers to Qatar 2022, Miguel Ángel Borja played 9 matches and scored 4 goals. One did it to Argentina, two to Chile and the last to Bolivia, thus becoming the Colombian with the most scoring scores on the way to the World Cup.
