The newly appointed Minister of Housing and former director of Social Prosperity, Susana Correa, resigned from the Democratic Center party with strong criticism for the management given to the community.

In a letter, Susana said: “I hereby allow me to submit my resignation to this community, which I have accompanied since its inception and have been part of the entire process of growth, formation and consolidation with which I fully identified.”

He added that he had been analyzing this decision for a long time, “I have been able to reflect on my disagreement with the decisions, positions and management that I materialize today, expressing my disagreements and my impossibility of continuing as a militant”.

The president highlighted the trajectory and commitment of Susana Correa and her commitment to Colombians, since her tenure in the Congress of the Republic, and in the current Government, as director of the Department of Social Prosperity (DPS). The new minister thanked Iván Duque, for the opportunity to contribute to ensuring that more Colombians have safe drinking water and basic sanitation and fulfilling the dream of having a home of their own.

Correa Borrero will face major challenges for the remaining 4 months of government, such as completing the reconstruction of Providencia, which was initially in 100 days, announced in November 2020 when Hurricane Iota destroyed the island. It should be noted that she was in charge of the projects from the DPS.

This will be one of the main tasks of the new minister, the president said,

“More than 85% of the reconstruction has been developed and will be delivered before the end of our government and you, too, will continue to be in charge of that responsibility, among other things, by coinciding or complementing your administration as Minister of Housing with leaving the most important reconstruction that our country has ever had.”

In fact, the Duke highlighted his performance in the Department of Social Prosperity, mainly during the confinement caused by the COVID 19 pandemic, where relief and financial aid were distributed to different sectors of the population,

In addition, he noted that it successfully increased the coverage of the 'Youth in Action' program, from 126,000 beneficiaries to more than 700,000 young people, with a projection of 730,000 when the Government ends.
