President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) insisted that he will not intercede in the conflict that Julio Scherer, former Legal Counsel, has with Olga Sánchez Cordero, president of the House of Senators, and Alejandro Gertz Manero, Attorney General.

This, in reference to the accusations of persecution that Scherer Ibarra accused on March 19 for the weekly Proceso: according to his account, both defendants would point him out of having committed alleged acts of extortion in relevant cases during his presidency.

Despite this, the president declared that it will be the responsibility of the Public Prosecutors and Judicial bodies to attend to the situation if it proceeds; this, he said, because his agenda includes “much more important issues”.

According to Scherer's testimony, the differences with Sánchez Cordero arose after he could not overcome his departure from the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), as well as the appointment of matters with the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and the Judiciary to the Legal Counsellor; this, shortly before Scherer's resignation of it.

Meanwhile, the feud with Gertz Manero later led to Scherer's failure to favor him in the case against his sister-in-law Laura Morán and daughter, Alejandra Cuevas Morán, accused of being allegedly responsible for the death of Federico Gertz Manero, the Prosecutor's brother.

However, the “cherry on the cake” with the Prosecutor were the allegations about the alleged data leak to report a secret house of Alejandro Gertz Manero, located in one of the exclusive areas of Las Lomas in Mexico City (CDMX).

Given this, Olga Sánchez Cordero pointed out that “she has a clear conscience” and “would not fall into the game to serve as a distractor”, referring to the phrases proclaimed by López Obrador. However, she stated that she would reveal her version of the accusations, given the inaccuracies indicated in the text.

It should be recalled that the statement by the Chief Executive supports the position he initially expressed on March 21, during his press conference at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA): “We don't want to participate in that,” he said.

This aroused several questions in public opinion, as it contrasts with other situations in which Andrés Manuel did advocate those now mentioned; especially, with the head of the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR).

This was the case on March 7, in the context of the alleged manipulation of Gertz Manero in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) in the case of Alejandra Cuevas: (a) López Obrador expressed his understanding of the case because he was linked to his deceased brother, Federico Gertz Manero.
