Universitario de Deportes made official Monday the signing of Peruvian international striker Andy Polo for the 2022 championship of local football, the institution reported.
“Andy is back! Welcome back to your home,” said the club on Twitter where he also posted a video of the player at the Monumental stadium in Lima, home of Universitario.
Polo's signing took place after he was released after being fired in February by MLS Portland Timbers for a complaint by his ex-partner and mother of his children for physical assault.
Polo's arrival was criticized by 'U' fans and feminist organizations in Peru.
Polo, 27, is one of the last reinforcements of Universitario, which is directed in Uruguayan by Álvaro Gutiérrez. He returned to the 'U' after 6 years abroad, where he defended Mexico's Morelia and Portland Timbers.
