Rosangella Barbarán responds to Sigrid Bazán: “Without Fujimori you don't exist”

On March 16, before the final decision of the Constitutional Court (TC) on the pardon of Alberto Fujimori, the congresswoman Rosangella Barbarán (Popular Force) urged parliamentarian Sigrid Bazán (Together for Peru) to leave the former president alone and refrain from commenting on the issue.

The congresswoman asked her comrade to leave the former president alone.

“Enough, Sigrid. Leave Fujimori alone, if you hate him so much, pretend he doesn't exist. He never lifted a gun, never a murderer. You are able to embrace people linked to terrorism and not know that against humanity was an invention. Without Fujimori you don't exist,” he said on his Twitter account.

This was done in response to a tweet by the Juntos for Peru parliamentarian, where she spoke about the possible release of the former president. To this end, his stance was strongly against it and he recalled that Fujimori did not pay civil reparations or ask for forgiveness.

“Alberto Fujimori never asked for forgiveness, nor did he regret it and so far he has not paid a single amount of his civil reparation, however, tomorrow the TC could rescind the PJ ruling that annulled the illegal and negotiated pardon, granted to him for political and non-humanitarian reasons,” he said.

It is recalled that the pardon given to Alberto Fujimori on December 24, 2017, was given by then-President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT RESTORED PARDON TO FUJIMORI

On March 17, the TC ruled in favor of habeas corpus filed by lawyer Gregorio Parco to rescind the Supreme Court decision that annulled the pardon to Alberto Fujimori on 24 December 2017. In this way, Alberto Fujimori's pardon was again validated.

With this new decision, the TC declares one of the three cases seeking the release of the former president founded. On this occasion, Ernesto Blume was the one who presented and supported the measure.

TIED VOTING

According to TC magistrate Eloy Espinosa, the vote ended in a draw of 3 votes in favor to 3 votes against. The president of the entity, Augusto Ferrero Costa, was the one who defined the verdict; and ended up voting in favor of habeas corpus.

Thus, Alberto Fujimori's pardon was reinstated .

They voted against, as planned: Marianella Ledesma, Eloy Espinosa-Saldaña and Manuel Miranda. On the other hand, Ernesto Blume and José Luis Sardón voted in favor.

The decision of when and how Fujimori would be released from prison will depend on Ferrero Costa's decision.

“In some cases it was directly the court that coordinated with INPE, at other times it was the court that referred this to the Supreme Court. One way or another, the corresponding officials will have to coordinate to comply with the sentence,” Espinosa said on TV Peru.

RESOLUTION OF THE INTER-AMERICAN COURT

On the other hand, the magistrate confirmed that the decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which is meeting from March 16 to May 4, is still pending; where the case of Barrios Altos is being heard. For this reason, the judiciary had initially denied pardon to the former president.

Espinosa pointed out that he and Judge Ledesma raised a previous issue to await the resolution of this court, but they were ignored.

“We have done everything possible to prevent the Peruvian State from entering into a confrontation with the Inter-American Court. We haven't succeeded. The Inter-American Court is meeting just in this time frame,” he added.
